Yeah.
And if you disrupt that balance, either by drinking a lot without sodium, you can disrupt that balance, or you ingest a lot of sodium without enough water, you can
Sodium is important to to keep that balance correct.
Um mostly it's important to keep the the blood blood volume in range and the
We we the last few days we we talked about osmotic concentration because there's always this word with osmolality and osmolarity.
And os osmotic concentration is a good good word to remember and you can just phrase it like this.
And the osmotic concentration, the blood has to keep has to be kept at a very specific level.
And what happens outside of the blood is
also important.
And mostly I would say that for shorter events you don't need a lot of sodium.
Especially when you're not drinking more than
I would say uh seventy hundred, seven hundred and fifty milliliter per hour.
If you drink a lot more, then you might disrupt that balance and you need some sodium.
For longer events where you sweat a lot and replace a lot of that fluids in your body, sodium might be more important.
Like, I would say more than four, five, six hours, then it's like more relevant.
On the other hand, a little bit of sodium helps with carbohydrate absorption, so small amounts of sodium won't disrupt that balance too much, but helps with carbohydrate absorption.
And like I said, for longer events, sodium might be more important, especially on very hot days where you lose a lot of water, also lose some salt with or sodium with that with that water or with that sweat, then it's more relevant.
For most athletes, I would just maybe that's risky to say, but I would say that most athletes uh maybe in short events and daily training take more sodium than they need in with sports nutrition in normal training situations.
On the other hand, what Paul just said, for 20, 24 or more hours of running, sodium might be quite important.
Like just because you replace so much fluid.
