When you also bring carbohydrates into that equation, then we know also from the last podcast that there's different transporters, uh, one for glucose, SGLT1, one for fructose, GLUT5.
And if you have a solution that has both glucose and fructose, then the uptake is even improved.
And you have energy and hydration kind of that's at the same time.
And also what is important that sodium doesn't equal salt.
So sodium is just one part of salt.
So seventy to one hundred grams of sodium
would equate to one hundred would equate to almost two hundred fifty grams of table salt.
So we have really a huge amount of of those like of of salt in our body.
Well if we look at sweat, um mostly like sweat is uh is when it it leaves the the blood, it's isotonic, so it has the same concentration of the elements in the blood.
And some of those elements, especially sodium, are reabsorbed through the skin.
So the sweat turns hypotonic.
The concentration of elements is lower than the concentration of the elements in the blood.
But what athletes mostly lose is sodium.
And if you lose a lot of sweat, you also lose some sodium.
And the more sweat you lose, probably the the bigger the urge to replace some of that sodium is.
So especially for
For that heavy sweater, salty sweater, on a long distance, ultra-event sodium is important.
All other minerals are not really significant in this scenario.
We also have some losses of potassium, but these are normally not a problem for performance.
