And I wanted to just spend some time being like, all right, we're in a spot now where

you look at the Jeremy Fowler list from this week, other people have done these quarterback ranking exercises where they're saying Caleb Williams is one of the 10 best quarterbacks in the league.

Well, let's dig into that a little bit.

Like what was his season really last year beyond the excitement and everyone being so thrilled about the direction of the bears, like down to down nuts and bolts.

What should we feel about Caleb Williams right now?

I felt like it was worth just kind of peeling it back and spending a little bit of time in it because of how the conversation is going.

evolved or kind of shifted over the last six months or so.

One, you have 42 throwaways as part of that season last year, which was the most in the league per next-gen stats that the NFL gives you.

A lot of that is him escaping sacks, not creating a negative play, but then not creating a positive play on the other side of it.

That has nothing to do with Caleb Williams.

That's just the play devolves after he gets out of something.

There's nothing there.

He's throwing the ball away, not making a bad play worse.

That's a good thing.

The other part is that the Bears had a lot of drops last year.

I think they were top five in really any metric you look at in total drops.

But beyond the drops, so many...

bang bang plays last year for that team fell incomplete where the receiver and the quarterback are just kind of on the wrong page the ball hits the receiver in the hands and gets dropped the ball hits the receiver maybe an inch behind him but he can't hang on to it the best example to me is against the rams in the playoffs he hits roma dunze on the goal line on that first drive and that ball probably should be caught and it falls incomplete it's not a drop

but it's a missed opportunity.

And there were a lot of missed opportunities by the receivers last year.
