Uh can you run us through these examples?
Uh the the first being uh the sort of uh uh the bending, you know, the the the the the the real positive case of of of progress and the others being places where um we could learn
um ways in which progress can fall short.
No, I I think that w what you just said about the uh marriage equality um uh uh case um does a nice job of sort of uh crystallizing the the view here.
It's it's not just a policy change, it's not just a
um the kind of change in our politics and in our society that one might expect from um effective uses of various forms of popular or social power.
Uh the the success story, uh as you're telling it, is a story about um
people not merely um adopting new attitudes, but adopting new attitudes because something um more fundamental about their comportment within the world has changed that leads them to change their attitudes about uh um uh same sex couples.
Is that the that's the that's exactly right.

Now let's then talk about the the the two examples where
Um, it looks like uh you you want to argue and seems to me plausible by the way, that um the uh the project of school desegregation and the project of uh um j you know gender integration in the workplace, women's integration in the workplace look like we've got part of the elements of that story, that success story, that gold standard of progress, but not all of them.
