But then I'm very optimistic on the back end of all of that.
I think that with most technological change, what you see is there's this period of massive disruption and fear, and on the back of it, productivity expands, and as a result, demand goes up because prices come down, and new jobs get created, and new things that we can't possibly envision today get created.
And that would be my operating thesis, in part because I don't believe in the idea that
this time is different.
Everyone says that at all times in history.
And the truth is that we've seen these changes at different times throughout history.
Is this one broad-based and happening faster than ever before?
Maybe.
But I think that the truth is that humans have proven extraordinarily resilient in our ability to manage and navigate enormously disruptive changes.
Does that mean that I'm not
really scared for what the future looks like for our kids?
No.
It terrifies me, thinking about what the future looks like, and what jobs look like, and my son's future, and what school looks like, and all of these changes.
O' And the quest.
And what the quest looks like.
Everyone's now talking about, well, we'll just have universal basic income for everyone because of this abundance.
I'm like, it sounds like the worst idea in the world to me.
You just remove anyone's motivation to show up and do anything?
What do you think humans are going to do?
especially when you have the technology to just sit around like a sloth all day.
