No, but it's just not true, scientifically or anecdotally.
We've all experienced, especially early in our lives, this idea that money directly buys happiness in the early days of your life.
The
The struggle and the challenge is when you lose sight of everything else along that journey.
You continue to think that those early in life gains and happiness that come from money are going to continue in perpetuity.
They don't, scientifically or anecdotally.
Money has to transition, in other words, from being an end, like the goal, to a tool to accumulate these other things.
It needs to start being an asset that you use
to create experiences and time with people you love, that freedom, your health, all of those other things that you can invest in.
What I say to young people is, your 20s and 30s are an incredible time to turn up the dial when it comes to financial wealth.
Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world.
If you start early and you grow in that way, those first seven years of my career were incredibly important, because when I went to go make this change in my life,
I wasn't in an incredibly scary situation of having no financial basis to do that off of.
I was able to be a little bit more free to make that change as a result.
The important point, I think, for people to get across is just to say,
Do not turn the other areas of your life off while you're turning one up.
The mindset shift here is, the traditional way of thinking about these things is to say they exist on light switches, on-off switches.
So, you say, I'm in my 20s, I'm going to flip the financial wealth switch on.
And you say, too bad family and friends, you flip it off.
Too bad health, flip it off.
