Now, right now we have a scenario where Canberra is spending like a drunken sailor.
We have 10 years of budget deficits.
We have a trillion dollars of debt soon, and the Reserve Bank is in Sydney raising interest rates.
Yeah.
Like, it's crazy, right?
It's a bit like right now we also have this bizarre situation where the government in Canberra is peddling these 5% mortgages, which are really 95% mortgages, but the prudential regulator at APRA is saying, actually, we don't want to have any more 80% plus LVR loans, right?
So it's just insane.
Like, we live in a country full of contradictions and...
I'm trying to give you sort of a sense of one of the macro trends I think we're living through, which is that the country's public debate has really been dumbed down.
And that's why I say to you again that the fact that these guys thought they could announce a new tax on everything to fix a housing crisis that they've helped create just shows how brazen they are, but also how dumbed down the overall environment we're working in.
Like at the end of the day, the answer to your question is,
you've got to focus on what you can control.
And what we can control is Canberra's spending.
Yep.
Well, what we got wrong was we didn't have any policies that were good, and the policies we did have were in the main bad.
Okay.
So that's a bad start.
And then you can talk about the communication.
But ultimately, we can talk about communication, but what really matters is the substance.
This is a policy debate that we must have on the future of our country, the future of our ambition as a strong economy.
