It was quite funny because just before Christmas, I was installing an exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, which was the Westwood Kawakubo exhibition, and installing those hats on heads.
And it is extraordinary how, even though it was a long time ago, it just seems so relevant.
Well, I'm sure, well, either they wanted me to go into the family company, which was a haulage business in Liverpool, which was not exactly me.
But, I mean, I look back and it sounds very arrogant of me to say so.
I was very lucky to be given that opportunity.
But I'm sure my father wanted me to become an accountant or something more straight-laced, as opposed to going to art school like my elder sister who had flunked out after the first year.
So I just didn't think they thought it was a proper job.
And funny enough, I think they felt that way all their lives.
Apart from the fact that at the very end of my father's life, he hadn't said anything for a long time.
I decided to sort of have a conversation with him, but I had to take up both parts, both vocal parts.
And I said, you know, I'm sorry, I didn't become an accountant or a doctor or whatever.
I haven't got 2.5 children.
