I will never, ever forget and I will never diminish what I thought I saw in the character of the man who knew he had to rely on God and he had to stand on the shoulders of everyone else if he was going to carry that.
And we should want more leaders like that.
Yeah, well, I think there's some important questions that any responsible leader should answer before you start getting into how much do we need of what kinds of things in what places.
First of those things would be, has the nature of warfare really changed?
I mean, do we have kind of a different requirement set?
The kind of conflict we've had with Iran is wildly different than the kind of conflict we had with Iraq.
which is also wildly different from the land invasion to liberate Kuwait.
I mean, we had 600,000 personnel in theater at the time of the first Gulf War.
At the peak of the Iraq surge, it was half that.
And we're now sort of in the 50,000 range.
Today, courtesy of what Secretary Besant has unleashed, we have explicitly a lot more big financial tools
that in an era where there's dependencies, even an oil-rich country like Iran has dependencies.
And there's a little bit more that could be done to pinch things with some of those tools.
And a lot of the strikes we've had were from distance, by air or from platforms at sea that move.
And so whether you have fixed targets in what number, I think, is a reasonable question.
And then some of these countries in the region have modernized significantly.
I mean, the United Arab Emirates is wildly different in 2026 than it was in 1991 in the first Gulf War.
And so what should we have has to be informed, I think, by what are the real lessons that we've
we've gone through in this conflict, what has really changed and what's sort of temporary.
I don't think we go to zero.
