He did say the jobs report was a surprise and the revisions reflected turbulence in the economy, but he said there are still reasons to think the fundamentals in the economy are solid and uh
He's still very uncertain about the inflation impacts.
And the reporting season um that has uh underway is showing some of those inflationary impacts.
And you noted with Sky, I think, with Caterpillar recently, um, how they're seeing a big tariff hit and you saw the uh stock price of Caterpillar fall by about two percent overnight and that was part of the reason why uh the Dow Jones was down overnight.
Yeah.
But there was also a Wall Street Journal article just noting
Uh, President Trump's uh trade and tariff agenda has so far inflicted about twelve billion dollars of losses on global automakers.
And that's the biggest hit they've faced since the pandemic began.
And so that's really, really large.
And then the key question is okay, so that hit is being taken.
So what steps would automakers do uh in order to recover that hit?
And so one of the things they could do is obviously lift up pricing or um a a term they're starting to use called c consistency.
Pricing.
Uh and so General Motors said it expects to lift consistent pricing uh to offset about ten percent of its tariff costs this year.
Uh and so it it looks like as more certainty in uh tariffs have come through, and indeed uh the reciprocal tariffs did take effect last night, uh that companies are able to plan, are able to start to make some decisions about pricing.
And so I think in the next month or two that's when you potentially see this um
uh bigger inflationary impact from the tariffs, at least in the US itself.
But
Uh potential.
Uh so uh at least direct exports t to the US fell twenty two percent in July.
