in the environment where consumers are able to um get compensation through through through wages.
And I guess in that respect, it's also important to see what the headline University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index was.
And that headline fell to 57.9 uh versus 63 expected and 64.7 previously.
And I think over the past three consecutive months it's now down a cumulative twenty-two percent.
Um so if if inflation expectations
are rising but consumers are not confident, then maybe the labour market isn't necessarily uh gonna be as tight enough for them to be able to get um compensation for the high higher inflation out there and so less ability to to sustain any given pri price increase.
No, no, I think the ONS also noted the fall was driven by a notable slowdown in manufacturing uh oil and gas extraction and and and construction uh as well having relatively weak months there.
So uh it could be a little bit of volatility in the headline data, but also adds to the kind of soft sounds out of the UK.
But I think for markets, uh the overwhelming narrative there is uh European defence spending.
Uh and in that respect the German debt deal looks like it's gonna
to be agreed to by Tuesday of this week.
On Friday, headlines came out saying that the Greens were successful in their negotiation with the two major parties there, adding in climate spending and making moves to exempt Ukraine aid from those budget rules there.
They also got a concession for that 500 billion euro fund outside of normal budget infrastructure spending over the next decade.
About 100 billion of that is going to be committed to climate
And transformation.
So uh that was part of the reason why you did see that uh rise in German yields on Friday and also why the U Euro was supported there.
Uh and then on German defence spending and European defence spending in general.
We were talking last week about um European uh countries diversifying their sourcing of defence expenditure, uh particularly away from the US after
many uncertainties in terms of the efficacy of that uh uh equipment.
Um and so uh Portugal and Canada um more recently have both flagged potential potentially moving away from F thirty fives and also looking to alternative missile systems, so particularly the French Italian system.
