And that is the psychologist, Dennis Charney, who I interviewed, who studies resilience.
He talks about this idea of like a toolbox and literally pulling these things out as you need them throughout your life.
So you have all these tools there and you remember, yes, I did this back then and I can go back to that and pull it out when I need it.
And you're right.
I think exercise and sports is a great training ground for realizing that
You can do so much more than you think you're capable of.
You can push yourself beyond the point you thought you could.
And that's a great lesson for all the other difficult things that happen in life that you have to push yourself to get through.
I mean, again, I will say that when I walk in the room and I see a lot of patients in my practice, I mean, I see like 18 patients a day and I always walk and say, hi, how are you?
And, you know, 60% of the time, the response I get is,
Oh, you know, I'm like so like depressed because this happened or I'm feeling really stressed out or I'm very anxious.
They're not talking to me about, you know, oh, well, my blood pressure numbers have been this or, you know, even a symptom.
I had chest pain.
The first thing is how they're feeling.
And that, again, is why the mental part really plays in so strongly to what we do.
I can't begin to address any of the other stuff until I've spent five or 10 minutes talking about what's happening in their life.
And then they tell me, I'm caring for my aging mother.
My son is in drug rehab.
