Like she's truly cooking for Jeffrey.

That's one of my favorite cookbooks.

Again, as a vegetarian, I'm sorry, Ina and Julia, but I substitute a lot for soy and stuff.

But I truly think that she loves cooking for Jeffrey, but they both feel like such feminist icons to me, too, because I think they both have partners that truly love what they do professionally and that are just as madly in love with their creativity and with their intelligence as they are with them as this idea of a housewife or a homemaker.

I feel the same way.

And that's why I think one of the reasons I think Julia Child is also such a compelling figure to me is that just basic thing of like she discovered her passion quite late in life.

And that she doesn't address it to me feels like it may partially come from having a partner who also doesn't think it's a big deal.

I mean, it feels like she was someone who was really supported and found someone who also wasn't beholden to society's rules about age or gender.

Yeah.

To me, the bride-to-be cooking class of it all, I think, really speaks to the way, like, her greater influence, how she changed the way that people view cooking, certainly American women.

Like, not as drudgery, but as art?

100%.

I think that is her big contribution to the world, is that she took this thing that was supposed to be a chore for women, and she was like, no, you're going to have fun with this.

You're going to enjoy this and you're going to make this be like an extension of yourself if that's what you want to do.

Because I also love that she knew that's who she was targeting is people who wanted to find joy in cooking.

I think that's a tension that exists throughout this entire story.

And I guess I like the way that she doesn't comment too much on it because I think Julia Child's whole thing is just do it.

Don't talk about it.

Get in the kitchen and start experimenting.
