I thought, this is such a perfect opportunity for the Cubs.

They haven't won in over 100 years.

As Jack Brickhouse said, anybody can have a bad century, right?

That's where they were at.

And it was like the worst team in the division, oldest team in the division, worst farm system.

So it was like a mandate to come in, a blank slate to build something.

Got a chance to do it with great people.

It was clear Tom was an awesome owner.

So I said, man, what a perfect opportunity to take the things I've learned along the way and apply and build something from scratch and kind of challenge myself.

And then the payoff, if you win, is just as rewarding and just as resonant as what you had in Boston.

So it was kind of a perfect fit for me.

I got to play in Boston and you brought me there in 08 and then 13 winning.

And you mentioned how many similarities there are between the two organizations.

What did you bring from Boston to Chicago that was important to you?

Yeah, that was a big one is I felt like over over time in Boston, we'd grown into being like a first class kind of gold standard type organization, along with a couple others out there in baseball.

And a big part of it was how you treat players, how you treat their families, how you operate.

I had learned a lesson myself from Craig Shipley, from a player along the way back before I became a GM with the Padres about always telling the truth to players, always being totally upfront and honest.

And I felt like we kind of applied that as a front office in Boston and started to get a good reputation for how to treat people and handle players and build teams.

I wanted to take that with us, but it was really important.

And then some other baseball things.
