I wanted him to come and see me.
He didn't even know my address or where I live.
Shall I drag mine in now?
It was a really hard time because I'd actually gone into the job in probably a really hard way.
The previous England coach had been obviously removed from the post.
I'd only gone in six weeks prior to the World Cup.
So the angst around the post was particularly difficult for me personally anyway.
But it worked.
to be offered the England coach was something I always wanted to do.
And it was interesting that that was the first trip that I was financially able to pay for my mum and dad to fly business class to Sydney.
You know, it was something that I wanted to do for my mum and dad.
And obviously it was the proudest moment of their life to take my dad to Australia, which is something that he'd always wanted to do.
I think,
I remember one day, the actual Wednesday when he actually passed away, I'd rung my mum, and you know you just get a feeling that there was something wrong before I rung my mum, and I just remember telling me that he'd been taken to hospital, and I just knew instantly that there was going to be something wrong, and I think the next probably, what was it, 36 hours, probably the most difficult of my life, because
I was trying to support my mum.
I obviously was trying to support the team.
My dad had obviously was on a life support.
And at the time, my mum thought he was going to come through, but the nurse and doctor had shared with me that he wasn't.
So I was having conversations with my brothers who were back in England.
And it was interesting.
