Because I achieved a high level of success as an early young child and then sustained that through adolescence.
Athletics helped me a lot to have the confidence in myself to be a leader, to take charge, to make decisions.
That was just what I did, but I did not have confidence
in how I looked.
Now, I had confidence in how I looked athletically, what my body could do for my sport, but that was really contingent on performance, and if my performance went down, then I got in my head about the extra three, four pounds that I was, and then I started comparing my body type to a different body type, which is like comparing a chihuahua to a bulldog and going, one's better.
No, you might have your preference.
But like one body type's not better.
A chihuahua is supposed to look like a chihuahua, a bulldog, a bulldog, a Great Dane, a Great Dane.
But in my own mess of identity and pressure and perfectionism, when my performance athletically would go down, I blamed my body type.
And that was the start of the spiral of an eating disorder and body dysmorphic journey that I went over and went through.
When I say I went through it, y'all, I went through it, trudged through it for over 15 years.
That said, I was healed.
I'd done the coaching.
I'd done the therapy.
I'd done the work.
I was in the personal training field and I met my husband.
And in the personal training field, it was sort of an expression, an extension of already this athletic field of perfectionism.
Because what do we do in personal training?
Well, we just perfect people's bodies.
And I put pressure on myself to have the perfect body or the perfect muscular physique.
