So when it was time for me to meet my board, I was like, hey, I'm going to be fine.
Like, it's not the end of the world.
I can do this.
Like I've come to this country, I didn't know anything.
So, you know, we can do this.
But I think it's all the preparation that often doesn't feel like preparation is really what sets you up for those moments.
And so as a CFO, I just make sure that there is no surprises when it comes to the finances of the organization to the board.
They should have a clear picture of what keeps me up at night, what we should be worried about, where are things, should they be worried?
Should they not be worried?
Because at the end, that's what their role is.
Like you have to understand what is the role of a board member, right?
And how am I going to be a business partner to this person who signed up to be on this board and want to make sure they're helping the company long term?
As a CFO, I want to let them know where we're doing okay, what are the risk opportunities that we see.
So every time I present to a board, I make sure that it's very easy to understand because not all of them necessarily have a finance and accounting background, but it has to be very easy to understand.
Are we OK?
Are we not OK?
This is what we should be worried about.
This is what we don't have to worry about because we're doing so great.
Like using that kind of language and bring the tension down and make sure that when I present the numbers, that the numbers match what I'm saying.
