But I guess I could tell the story of how I was first drafted and How there was a big decision to make between the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants.
How did Tom Mitchell earn AFL contract offers at just 16?
So essentially, um I had a strong under sixteen national carnival for Western Australia and uh won the MVP, fortunately, of that carnival. And a week later I had two AFL contracts on the table as a sixteen year old from both the Sydney Swans and the GWS Giants.

So how did you know there were two contracts
on the table? Well they went through my dad actually. Yeah right. Yeah, I remember the Swans flew over to my house. Um actually after the carnival. The carnival's in Blacktown in Sydney. I went to a game at the SCG and um met Paul Ruse and Barry Hall and a number of the players that were going there and I thought this is pretty cool. Like, how good's this? And then the Swans flew over and met my family, they offered me a three year deal. The Swans
offered you a three year deal to be drafted there.

But would weren't there
automatically I would have had to wait till I was eighteen for that draft, but they said we're going to take you with our first pick, which ended up being pick twenty one.

Um back then it was just you just had to match match the pick of that round. Because you were father son.

Swans were offering three years. Yeah, and
then the Giants, that that was their first year entering the competition. They offered me a five year deal.
Five year deal as a sixteen year old that you wouldn't be able to start till you're eighteen. Yes. And what was the money on this five year deal?
Well the first two years of the C B A, I think it's three years now, are set. So it's essentially uh it would have been roughly I don't know. 150, 120. No, eighty thousand, maybe less, eighty thousand plus match payments. Yeah. But the the money for the remaining three years after that was the most jaw-dropping feeling of my life.
