What are the goals of this ETF investing mini-series?

Property investors often talk about using debt to build wealth. In the share market, that's called gearing. With the BetaShares WealthBuilder range, investors can access moderate gearing into shares, and with the newly launched GG-BL, That means exposure to a diversified portfolio of around 1,300 global companies excluding Australia, all with no loan applications, credit checks, or margin calls. Gearing magnifies both gains and losses, so it's only suitable for investors with a very high tolerance for risk. You can learn more about the WealthBuilder range of ETFs at the BetaShares website. And don't forget to read the PDS and TMD to decide if it's right for you. BetaShares Capital Limited is the issuer.

Here's something worth knowing if you've been meaning to make the switch to a better broker. To celebrate their fifth birthday, Perla are offering three free trades a month for five months if you transfer your portfolio across with a minimum of $1,000. For anyone investing regularly, that's meaningful savings on brokerage that can stay invested instead. Perla is chess-sponsored, built specifically for long-term investors, and now has over $3 billion invested on the platform. If you've been with a platform that doesn't quite fit your strategy anymore, it might be time to take a look. You'll find all of the details at perla.com slash LP slash RASC. That's perla.com slash LP slash RASC. That means it's not specific to you, your needs, goals or objectives, so don't act on the information until you've spoken with your financial advisor.

Kate 1:48
Welcome to part two of our ETF investing mini-series.
Owen 1:51
Yes, what are we talking about?
Kate 1:53
Well, all of this week we're talking about ETF investing and making sure you've got the confidence and skills to research and invest in ETFs and sort out your financial future.
Owen 2:02
This is 102, Monique. We just graduated. Now we're going to talk about some more interesting things. We're going to go in a few different directions. Let's scratch the surface just a little bit on some other ideas.
Monique 2:14
Nice. Can't wait.
Kate 2:15
Yes. So if you're new here and you do not know what we're talking about, I would recommend heading back to part one and listening to that verse where we explain what ETFs are. We used some chocolates, so it's lots of fun. We just ate a few. So now we're getting ready to walk you through what we look at when we're trying to figure out what ETF we want to invest in.
Owen 2:38
Yep. And then this will help us kind of segue into future episodes where we talk about other things and we use more examples. Okay. So if you haven't already listened to episode one, as Kate said, please go back and listen to that. And we may bring up a box of favorites. That was our example of an ETF. So Kate, what are the types of things we're going to be talking about?
Kate 2:57
Yeah, so in today's episode, we're going to talk a little bit about risk profile and working out what type of investor we are because that's really important when we figure out what ETFs we actually want in our portfolio and how much we should actually be putting in each one. And if we are a high-risk investor, what that might look like versus if we're maybe a low-risk investor and we don't really want to take much risk with our money. Mm-hmm. We're going to talk a little bit about ethical investing and how that works with ETFs. We're going to talk about the core and satellite approach that Owen briefly mentioned at the end of part one. We're going to talk about actually working out where on earth do you want to invest?
Kate 3:33
Do you want to invest in property or Australian shares? Do you want to invest in the US tech companies, like figuring all of this out. When you might want to use ETFs versus another approach, really working out what you're looking for and how do you actually learn more and some resources there. And where does this ETF actually fit into your strategy?
