What does a recession mean for my finances?
Property investors often talk about using debt to build wealth. In the share market, that's called gearing. With the BetaShares WealthBuilder range, investors can access moderate gearing into shares, and with the newly launched GG-BL, That means exposure to a diversified portfolio of around 1,300 global companies excluding Australia, all with no loan applications, credit checks, or margin calls. Gearing magnifies both gains and losses, so it's only suitable for investors with a very high tolerance for risk. You can learn more about the WealthBuilder range of ETFs at the BetaShares website. And don't forget to read the PDS and TMD to decide if it's right for you. BetaShares Capital Limited is the issuer.

How are you going?
Not bad, not bad.
And Kate Campbell. Mate, how are you?
It is good to be here recording in person.
Yes, we're here for money and chill, which is a bit more of a relaxed episode. So, a bit of fun. We're going to have some money-saving tips. Kate wants to talk about the recession that's impending.
Yes, everyone wants to know about the recession, Owen.
Yes. So, we'll get to that, which is pretty topical because people are a bit worried. Interest rates are going up on mortgages and what have you. So, yeah, a bit of fun.
Yes. So this is our money and chill session we do each month. If you want something more serious, tune into one of our other episodes, but it's a good chance for us to share some of the things we've learned about at the moment, some of the books we're reading, some of the money hacks we've found and yeah, just some of the general finance news.
Yeah, cool. I like it. I haven't read a book, but I did go back and listen to Brian Cox on Joe Rogan. He's the space guy.
I love the space guy.
Yeah. I love all space guys. But this one in particular, he was in a band. Oh, really? Brian Cox. You know that song? Things can only get better. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Okay. I think he was the guitarist. Oh, no way. I'm pretty sure. Someone's going to correct me and be like, oh, he was the drummer or the bass guitarist. But yeah. Yeah, I didn't know that. Interesting. Yeah, super cool. And now he's like a touring academic.
And thankfully we're not a music podcast.
That was my vocal. That's the full range. That's beautiful.
Can we get the full song next time, please?
Yeah, for sure, for sure.
We are not taking Owen to karaoke.
Kate does have a good voice. Come on, Kate. No, I am not singing on the podcast. So what are we talking about then?
Well, firstly, I think you need to talk about recessions because it's in the title.
Okay, sure. Yeah, Kate's very firm on this, that if it's in the title, I must talk about it because I like to just put crazy titles on podcasts. So recession, people are concerned because interest rates are going up. And that means the biggest expense, if you look at all the studies, so AMP, ANZ, Finder, everyone that does studies of financial stress, the number one thing is mortgages or rent.
