Scooble switching teams because of the perception that he would only be a one-year rental. Still, to me, seems like a long shot. Ryan, that's another matter. It has been well documented how hotly pursued Ryan was at the trade deadline.
And because of that, Twins GM Derek Falvey was going to be one of the most sought-out voices in that conference room on Wednesday. That's why I went up and reunited with a friend of the program, Derek Falvey. Caught up with him to get the lay of the land where it comes to run. Here you go. So our focus, really, and my focus and my goal has been to try and figure out how we add around the group that we have. We think our starting pitching is the strength of this team, for sure, right? So whether it's, we know Pablo and Joe have been real anchors for us over the last couple of years when healthy, and then ultimately to have... Bailey Ober coming back in a healthy spot, and then all the young pitching that we've both acquired, whether it's Taj, Mick Abel, who we just acquired, to join guys like Zebby and Simeon and David Festa and others. We like that group. So we think that's a group that hopefully we can build around. That would be my focus here in the early going. Obviously, you're going to get phone calls on those guys.
There's no way around it. There's going to be rumors. They're going to swirl. I always tell those guys, only believe about 10% of what you read on that stuff because it's just a reality. You don't know where it's going to go. But, you know, while we'll evaluate the markets for all our players, because that's the right thing to do from a job standpoint, we are going to, you know, my hope is that we can find a way to build around. A little bit, finally. It took a little while.
I've had other challenges along the way.
Early, I think all the early phone calls are usually what I think they're going to be, which is we have interest in these players, you know, the event that you want to move on along, you know, move any of them. And it's usually a wide range of players on your roster. But at this stage, it never really gets that aggressive on either end. I think GM meetings is a feeling out period. And then everyone goes home, gets settled back with their groups, and then it starts to pick up a little bit more toward winter meetings.
