Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 19.716 Unknown

We officially welcome Devin Williams to Queens. We're going to jump right into questions. So please use the raise your hand feature located at the bottom of the screen. State your name and identification for Devin as he's just joining us. And from there, we'll go on. We'll start off today with Laura.

22.84 - 29.548 Laura Albanese

Hi, Devin. Welcome to Queens. Also, Laura Albanese from Newsday. I just wanted to know, what did you feel made the Mets a good fit for you?

0

30.743 - 42.003 Devin Williams

You know, they're a team that wants to win, you know. You know, Steve's doing all he can to put a winning product out on the field. And, you know, I'd love to be a part of that.

43.345 - 52.802 Laura Albanese

Just in terms, I mean, I know you've already been acclimated to New York. How do you feel like you got more comfortable in the second half? And how do you feel that that can translate to now your tenure with the Mets?

0

54.183 - 71.128 Devin Williams

Yeah. I mean, it's, you know, um, it's familiar now, you know, I know what I'm going to need to do in order to get to the field and, you know, all the things like that, you know, getting home, just, you know, life stuff. So I've got all that figured out already. Um, you know, and I'm, I'm comfortable there.

73.792 - 94.536 Unknown

Well, Hey, Devin, thanks for doing this. Obviously, the Mets have been tied to Edwin Diaz. He's their former closure agency. Just what is what was your approach to considering the Mets and ultimately deciding to sign with them when Edwin is a free agent and a possibility to, again, rejoin the Mets?

97.119 - 100.744 Devin Williams

Yeah, like I said, I think it's just, you know, a good situation.

Chapter 2: What led Devin Williams to sign with the Mets?

102.192 - 112.233 Devin Williams

If he comes back, I think we're going to have a really good back end of the pen. So, you know, more good arms is always a good thing. That's really it.

115.36 - 117.484 Unknown

We'll go with Abby Mastrocco from Daily News.

0

119.928 - 135.895 Abby Mastrocco

Hey, Devin, Abby from The Daily News. Have you been able to sort of dissect your last season with the Yankees? Your underlying analytics were all pretty much on par for the rest of your career, but obviously there were some struggles last year. Have you been able to figure out anything from last season?

0

137.056 - 155.035 Devin Williams

Um, I feel like there was kind of a lot of factors, really, you know, some mechanical, some like, you know, pitch selection type stuff, you know, looking back on it, you know, just kind of reflecting on that and using that to, you know, help me prepare for this next season.

0

156.156 - 164.565 Abby Mastrocco

Is there any one aspect you think you're going to be able to take into next season or any major things that you found that you'll take into next season to improve upon?

165.98 - 185.541 Devin Williams

I think it's really just to, you know, continue to get better at what I'm already good at and then, you know, kind of expand my arsenal a little bit, which is something I've been working on. But yeah, I'm excited to really, you know, get to put it to use next year. Thank you. Go with Bill Ladson from MLB.com.

188.373 - 210.432 Bill Ladson

How's it going, Devin? Devin, you have a relationship with David Stern that dates back to Milwaukee. Could you talk about how much that relationship helped you sign with the Mets? And also, you had a great June. And how can that great June carry over into 2026?

212.656 - 235.585 Devin Williams

Um, I mean, as far as Stearns goes, um, you know, I'm, I'm familiar with, with the way that he wants the organization run, you know, the way that they want to do things and, and their process. So, you know, I, I think it's another, you know, familiarity for me. So it's, it's all comfortable, you know, um, as far as my, my June, I, I don't know, we played three months after that.

236.446 - 245.877 Devin Williams

So I thought I ended the year on a pretty good, pretty good run the last two months. Um, But, yeah, I think I'm just going to take that and try and carry it over into next season.

Chapter 3: How does Devin feel about pitching in the 8th inning if Edwin Diaz returns?

351.688 - 371.993 Unknown

From the time you started, you know, obviously technology has changed. How much did you lean on that technology to refine that pitch? And also, did you find there was a difference early in April? Obviously, Milwaukee, you're playing indoors. Then this year in New York, it's a little colder. Is there a difference in the grip and the way that pitch, you know, the shape that pitch takes?

0

373.998 - 389.222 Devin Williams

Yeah, obviously like developing it, you know, it's just all feel, right? Like before we had like TrackMan and the Edertronic and stuff, you're just doing it off of feel. You don't really have a measurement of what your pitch is actually doing.

0

391.885 - 412.286 Devin Williams

After it was already, you know, something I was good at, it was something that I, you know, refined in a sense of being consistent, like being able to create consistent shapes and not being bigger or smaller. You know, just kind of finding that consistency for myself. What was the second part of your question?

0

414.068 - 417.832 Unknown

You mentioned the weather in April in Milwaukee compared to New York.

0

419.574 - 420.795 Devin Williams

Yeah, I mean, it was...

421.383 - 450.023 Jerry Beach

cold obviously but I've fished in cold weather before I think it's just you know something that you just have to deal with as the season goes on go with Jerry Beach hey Devin Jerry Beach with the Associated Press did you sign earlier than you thought you might have when this process started and was there any thought of waiting until the winter meetings when things get a little more you know there's a lot more teams involved

452.011 - 453.535 Devin Williams

I couldn't understand you.

454.578 - 467.353 Jerry Beach

I asked when this process started for agency, did you sign quicker than you would have anticipated? And was there any thought to waiting until next week at the winter meetings when things get really chaotic?

468.65 - 486.444 Devin Williams

Um, honestly, I didn't really think that it was that fast for me. Um, but yeah, it was a process. We, I felt like we took our time with it, you know, the teams that were interested reached out and, you know, we had conversations with them and ultimately we decided to, you know, sign with the Mets.

Chapter 4: What reflections does Devin have on his last season with the Yankees?

602.266 - 611.5 Unknown

All right, Devin. Well, thank you very much for taking the time today. I appreciate everybody getting on here. And again, welcome to New York. We're looking forward to it. All right. Thank you.
