At the time that this happened, my family lived in an old two story house at the edge of a half abandoned industrial district. There were warehouses and empty lots behind the neighborhood, and after dark the whole area became strangely quiet. My parents, they both worked evening shifts, so there were plenty of nights when I was the only person in the house for hours. The house itself was nothing special too and My bedroom was at the end of a hallway, directly above the living room. One evening I was lying on my bed watching videos with the door partly open. It was sometime after midnight, I think, when I heard someone coming up the staircase. Slow footsteps, not hurried and not sneaking, but just the unmistakable sound of someone putting their weight onto each step.
I assumed that one of my parents had gotten home early. The footsteps they reached the upstairs landing and continued down the hallway in Then I heard what sounded like my father's voice. Are you still awake? I remember answering yes. There was no response. A few seconds later I heard the bathroom door open and the faucet. Water ran for several seconds before stopping, and at that point I was actually sort of relieved. I figured that my dad had come home and gone straight to the bathroom without bothering to answer me, and I got out of bed and stepped into the hallway and The bathroom light was on and the door was almost completely closed. Dad? Nothing, yeah. I walked over and pushed the door open, but nobody was inside.
The sink was also completely dry and Stood there for Several seconds trying to understand what I was looking at, I Then I heard something downstairs, like furniture being dragged across the floor and I looked over the railing toward the staircase, and The downstairs hallway was dark, except for the weak light coming from the kitchen, eh? and standing, just beyond that light, There's something that I still don't know how to describe exactly but At first I thought it was a person standing with their back toward me, but Then it moved, and it wasn't quite shaped like a person. It looked almost like a vertical patch of darkness, taller than I was, with edges that seemed to blur into the room around it. There were no visible clothes, no facial features, hands, or even clear legs, but whatever it was, it was simply there.
Also, I couldn't see its face because there didn't seem to be one. I froze seeing it. The thing remained eerily motionless too, like a statue, for maybe three or four seconds. Then it started moving toward the staircase. It didn't climb and it didn't walk. The entire shape simply glided forward and And well, that was enough for me. I ran back into my bedroom, slammed the door and locked it. I remember sitting on the floor beside my bed with my knees pulled against my chest, and for a while there was nothing. Then I heard footsteps outside of my room, except they weren't the same footsteps that I'd heard earlier. These were way quieter, slow and meticulous, one step after another. They stopped directly outside of my door as well, and
and I watched that doorknob move. It began turning slowly, and But thank God that that lock held. The handle stopped, and then came three knocks. Not on the door though, which was odd, but on the wall beside it. Three sharp knocks. I could actually feel the vibration through the walls as well, which is weird. But I didn't move. A few seconds later there were three more, and then after that, nothing. I stayed there, though, exactly in that spot, until my parents eventually came home. They found me sitting on the floor beside my bed and I never actually told them what happened.
