Hey everyone, Show Alley here with you. Welcome back to another edition of Jay's Talk Field Access on the Blue Jays Radio Network. Whether it's myself or Ben Shulman who are conducting these chats with MLB athletes or coaches or figures from around the game, we'll be bringing these to you a few times a month until the end of the season, which also means as we record today on an off-day Monday, there are only a few more of these remaining for the rest of 2026. On today's episode, Episode, we have four chats for you. Two current players, a retired great, and the best manager in the history of the franchise. First, the current players, I caught up with Max Scherzer the day before he made some more history.
This was a chat with him in the dugout on Saturday afternoon at the Rogers Center. He was very generous with his time, spoke a little bit about where the game is heading, and he also spoke about some of his current teammates as well. Ben caught Up the day before with one of the newer Blue Jays, Jose Soriano, who in addition to being an incredibly talented pitcher, is honestly one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Ben and I also attended the Hall of Excellence ceremony, the unveiling on Saturday, before our pal Buck Martinez was deservedly inducted later that day, and we got to chat with some of the inductees there. First, you will hear somewhat of a scrum. It was myself. Ben, sportsnet.ca's David Singh, and the athletics Mitch Bannon all chat with the legendary Carlos Delgado right in front of his locker.
And then a few minutes later, Ben and I went to go speak to Sito Gaston, which was a real treat, if I'm being honest. So let's take a listen. Show Alley here with you, and I'm here with Max Scherzer. Max, how are you today? Good, how are you? Thanks for having me on. Yeah, I appreciate you covering out some time for me. Well, first of all, the start, uh, congratulations on the recent milestones. 3,000 innings pitch, top ten on the all time strikeout list. You know, I know we're at a point in the season for the Blue Jays where, you know, it's all hands on deck, trying to rack up as many wins as possible.
But for you personally, do you get a chance to reflect on these incredible Milestones, like individual milestones, trying to get team accomplishments. Like how do you how do you work through that?
There's a time and sp place for it. Um it's more just have fun with the guys with it, you know. Also three hundred quality certs. I I didn't realize I did that one when I got that I didn't I didn't realize I was coming in on that one that somebody told me that day. Uh looked that one up and I I I actually like that one a little bit more than I thought. Uh yeah. Um so it's it's celebrating with the guys and and talking you know, and different guys ask questions about it and you know, they all think it's impossible and I'm like, No, it's We the game's in a bad state. You know, no, I think I think there will be guys in the future uh that can reach these milestones and uh you know, it's sharing just the the you know, my thoughts over my career and uh you know, having a conversation with guys about it.
Uh, you know, how the game has evolved over the past, you know, fifteen, twenty years and um, you know, my experience with it and who I've faced and uh how it's all gone and uh you know, it it's good that to uh reflect upon those times with the with the teammates and uh share those thoughts. But at the same time, you know, when you have that, I mean we're we're humans, we're baseball players, but we also know when we show up, yeah, we gotta win. You know, like ev uh you know, th there's nothing better than baseball uh when you're coming in in September and you gotta win every single game. Uh that's what you play the game for, is to be in these situations and uh we got ourselves in a fight and uh you know we we got some work to do.
