Everybody here remember Liberation Day when Trump randomly announced this whole chart of tariffs that were gonna be charged, including some island that only had penguins on it. It was a whole thing, was ultimately struck down by the Supreme Court. And so now all of the companies that paid those tariffs are coming to the government hand in hand saying, hey, pay us back. Let's put this up on the screen. Wall Street Journal reports that tariff refunds are here and they are charged. Turbo charging earnings. Apple, Nike, and FedEx are just a few companies recovering big sums relatively quickly. Some are passing at least a share on to customers. Well, that's rather interesting, isn't it? So we've got billions of dollars that are changing hands here.
Apple alone is getting $2.2 billion tariff refund. Nike is getting $986 million. FedEx about $800 million. Amazon $640 million. 40 million, GM 500 million. Have you received any tariff refunds for the additional prices that you paid? Because of course the way this worked is yes, the companies paid the tariffs. They then passed on much of, and there's been a lot of analysis of this, much of that price hike went straight to you, the consumer. So you do have a handful of companies that are saying that they're gonna provide their customers with refunds. Most Most of them are not consumer-facing companies. They're companies that sell to other businesses, where it'll be the businesses that get those refunds down the line.
But meanwhile, this is really padding quarterly earnings for these large businesses. So as if they weren't already reaching record profits in many instances, they're getting even more profitable because of this whole tariff situation. Apple said it's tariff. Refunds contributed 11 cents to per share earnings in the most recent quarter. That's about 5% of the quarter's uh total. GE Healthcare Tech said tariff refunds had contributed 18 cents of their $1.24 a share.
