Chapter 1: What is the listener's dilemma regarding the surprise party?
Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy? Not quite! On Humor Me with Robert Smigel and Friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guests, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an acapella band with their between-songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter. Listen to Humor Me with Robert Smigel and friends on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind.

Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kier Gaines. This space is about Black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men

I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on. A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman.
Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud.
But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

If you ever receive a bad gift, you can either pretend that you really like it, or, well, no, you pretty much have to pretend that you like it.
I was going to say, I didn't know we had another option.
We really have no other way. The thing is, that doesn't really work for one of our listeners, because he just found out what his girlfriend has secretly been planning to give him for his upcoming birthday, and the mere idea of it is sending him into a literal panic.

Chapter 4: What personal reason is affecting Franklin's decision?
Oh, so much so he's determined he has to stop her from ever giving it to him. You're going to hear what that is and why he absolutely cannot let it happen in your brand new Awkward Tuesday phone call next.
It's awkward.
It's Tuesday.
It's Awkward Tuesday phone call.
You've heard people say the phrase, information is power. Yes. Well, that's not the case for our listener, Franklin.
What?
Apparently for him, information is fear.
Uh-oh.
Because he learned something recently that got him so terrified, so scared, he emailed us asking if we could help him make an awkward Tuesday phone call. So maybe ignorance is bliss is the better quote we should use here. Oh, if only. It's too late for that. Franklin now knows too much.

Chapter 5: How does the team plan to help Franklin navigate this situation?
Just even that hi legit sounded frightened. I thought Jeffrey was exaggerating like he normally does, but you... I felt like I was exaggerating, but you sound like you're hiding underneath a blanket right now. No, no, no. I get a little nervous talking on the radio. Everybody's listening.
Oh.
Yeah, don't worry. There's only like five people that listen to this show. Yeah, don't worry. And one of them is my mom, and she thinks anything anyone does on our show is amazing.
Okay.
Okay.
There you go. Even you, right now, you're doing great.
Yeah, that's what my mom would say. Oh, he's so adorable. You're in a safe space right now, Franklin, so feel free to say whatever you need to. We need to know, what is this information that you found out that has you so terrified? Oh, okay. Well, like you've heard, I found out something I wasn't supposed to know.

Chapter 6: What advice do the hosts give Franklin for his phone call?
Okay. Well, you could take your time in telling us. You sound like you're rushing. Yeah. First, set the scene. Why are you not supposed to know this information? Well, I was hanging out with a buddy of mine and I said, hey, so what are you doing this weekend? And he goes, oh, I'll be at your thing. That's basically going to take the whole day, you know, with the setup and everything.
And I was like, he saw like on my face and then I saw his face. So it was like one of the things that he definitely wasn't supposed to say what he just said. Oh, your thing. Is your birthday coming up? Yeah. My birthday is Saturday, yeah. Oh, okay. That's cute. So there's like a party or something planned?
That's fun.
There's always one person that ruins it.
Chapter 7: How does Franklin's girlfriend react during the call?
Yeah. He came out with a little bit of information. What did he say? I mean, he didn't give it up right away. But I knew, you know, he was hiding something. So I was like, you got to tell me what it is.
And he tells me that my girlfriend is putting together a surprise party for me.
Oh, that's so cute. Cute. Oh, that's great, dude. Is that not something you would like? Because some people, I guess, you know, everybody in this room would love a surprise party, I think. Maybe not Jeff. Yeah, please, no. Yeah, you want to open the studio door, no one's here. Yeah, definitely. What a dream. Why would you put that in my head? What about you? What's your take on it?
Chapter 8: What unexpected twist occurs during the birthday surprise?
Are you excited to hear this or not? No, no, not at all.
I am not a party person. I'm not a big gathering person.
Okay. You are nervous just talking to us. Yeah. Here's the thing. My friend made me swear that I wouldn't give him up. Oh, yeah. He slipped up. It's not... It was an honest mistake. So I can't just... I don't want to throw him under the bus. Yeah, that's good. I got to do something here because I don't want the party. You don't? No, not at all. Oh, you don't want one at all. Oh.
You suck at the attention. It's kind of my fault because I had mentioned a couple of months ago that I'd never really had a big birthday party or anything. But I don't think she understood that that's because I didn't want one. You accidentally manifested this, bro.
Some people I know don't like celebrating, but I'm like, no, we have to. Like, you suck it up and celebrate.
So, you know, you don't like the attention being on yourself or you don't like the big crowds or like what is it about it that scares you the most? I don't like either, but both of them together are frightening. Okay. And it's also kind of personal. Like there's a third reason that this can't happen is what you're saying? Yes, that's exactly it. Okay, well, what is it? It's kind of personal.
What is it? Yeah, just tell us. That's not something that I'd be comfortable sharing.
Okay.
What if we use your phone, you only tell us, and we just react to what you're saying? You can swear us to secrecy. You know, it's fine if you don't tell us, but can I ask, does your girlfriend know this personal thing, or is this also a secret from her?
