I'm so sorry there was no news episode this week. It just between the jigs and the reels and the electro picnicking, myself and Carl just couldn't make the timeline work. So unfortunately, you will have to wait till next Monday for your news update. I hope you will forgive us. And we were both at a lecture picnic over the weekend. Obviously, uh I was doing the podcast there and Carl was with me and Emer as well, who's doing entertainment today. And we had a great time and a great, really lovely time in the minefield area.
And uh loads of you guys came, which was so so nice. But yeah, I ended up trapped on the electric picnic site yesterday for a couple of hours because we were parked on site and they close they basically close all the fences um to try and prevent major traffic problems for kind of a section of the afternoon, which we did not realize until we got to our car and we were not able to leave. So then we didn't get back until late and then Carl had something on this morning and Just between the jigs and the reels, it just didn't happen. So uh sorry about that. Um that's just life sometimes, I suppose. But we have got loads of entertainment to talk about, and myself and emir are gonna break down a lot of electric picnic, the electric picnic experience for you, along with lots of other stories.
So let's get into it. Emer McLeisit, welcome to my home. We have been together over the weekend, of course, at a lecture picnic. We were. How are you? I'm good.
I'm uh slightly hoarse of voice, sore of body, mm, but full of spirit.
Oh, I love that. I feel similar. Yeah. Similar. Yeah. Um had you been you've been doing stuff at Electro Picnic kind of the last few years, haven't you?
Yeah, Sarah and I have done various bits at the minefield um area, which is kind of the spoken word, um, theatre podcast area. So we've done a good few bits there, but I've actually been going since Can't remember if it was the first year or the second
year? I went to the first one 'cause I remember it was
only a day, wasn't

yeah. I was working in News Talk at the time. And I was working with David McWilliams. Uh he was doing a breakfast show there. And I was a a researcher and it was his friend had set it up. So he was full of chat about it. And then I was like, Oh, I'll go to that.
Yeah.
Um so I went to the first one and then I went, I think I went for like fifteen years straight. And then I missed a few years. And then this year was my first year back for a long time. And oh my God, I loved it.
Yeah. I last time I was there was twenty twenty three, which was an exceptional year weather wise, almost too hot. Um and then I definitely didn't go every year for like fifteen years, but I went many years in a row and then probably stopped around maybe twenty ten.
Yeah.
And have been on and off since then.
Yeah, yeah. I I just had forgotten, like it is I go to a lot of the smaller f Irish festivals now and I love them. And I think All Together Now is obviously it's not as big as Electric Picnic, it's probably the biggest one that I've been to the last few years. Yeah. And I really love them. But there is something to be said for the scale of Electric Picnic, like of in terms of just how much there is there and obviously then they get the bigger acts as well. Like I loved All Together Now this year. I love it as a festival. But the lineup was very similar to other lineups. Like I think most of the acts who we're playing are acts that you could have seen in Ireland over the last few years. Um and that doesn't mean it's not good, but you know, there's something really exciting about seeing big name acts like for example Geese, who obviously are, you know, the coolest rock band around at the moment, and then Sarah Larson who's the biggest pop girl, Ian Jade and
um lots of like up and coming pop stars like Audrey Hobert and Rose Gray and Skepta and you know, you just I just feel like they really knocked it out of the park in terms of lineup this year.
