Hello my friend and welcome to Catch Up with Louise Maxari. This is the podcast where I do my best to keep you caught up with what's going on in the world. Um, it's funny, I often find myself in this situation of trying to explain what this podcast is because people are like, You do three episodes, and I'm like, Yeah, bro. Um, and really, as I've said to you a million times, it's about making sure that if you go to the pub or uh to your kids' football match or whatever you're having yourself at the weekend and people start talking about something, you can get involved in the conversation. That's kind of the idea. Um today we are doing news. I know it's unusual for us to have a news episode on a Tuesday, but I was away over the weekend.

No, it's okay. I mean, I understand why. Obviously, we have a Monday morning tradition. Um, but yeah, um, as you guys know, I was away at a wedding over the weekend in Marbella, so I was traveling yesterday, so I couldn't record yesterday. And I didn't want another week to go by where we wouldn't have a news podcast, so we are recording today. Um, and you know, look, we have obviously been speaking about the Ed Shearing situation over the last number of weeks in the entertainment episode, but I actually felt Like it deserved a space in the news episode this week because it has become just such an enormous story. There are so many moving parts. And I think it really represents um a larger kind of shift that's happening um in terms of the way people view what's gone on in Gaza.

basically all unfolded since last Monday. Wow. Um well it obviously all started, um long before last Monday, during the first two shows of Ed Shearan's North American Stadium tour. Uh you know, he's been supported or he was being supported by McIlmoore. Like McInmoore obviously has had a major resurgence in the last three or four years. You know, obviously his big hits all came a while ago at like Thrift Shop and Downtown and stuff. Um but he has obviously become like a huge advocate and ally of the Palestinian movement. in the Palestinian solidarity movement. Probably one of the most like prominent musicians to be so consistent in his, you know, uh solidarity with Palestine. Obviously that kind of you know, his song like Hins Hall has been

Uh, you know, that was sort of about Palestine and also about, you know, if people can remember about two years ago there was a major crackdown on protests that were happening on US college campuses. Um which feels like that almost feels like a bygone era now, but that was a huge movement back in the summer of twenty twenty four. Um And McLamore sort of true to form and as anyone would have anticipated, used his platform when he was opening Fred Sheeran in these massive stadiums for two shows. He went out there and he said exactly what he had to say. And it wasn't incendiary, it wasn't violent, it was purely from the perspective of standing with Palestine and bringing an end to the genocide that continues to unfold there.
