What local weather and studio updates open the episode?

Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show. Welcome back. Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money. Oh, from a new studio. Completely new. Completely new. We basically change every week. As in my home. We are experiencing, like most of the country, a snow slash ice storm here in central Kentucky. Which basically means the state is shut down.
Logan (host) 0:35
Yeah, everything closes, basically.
Quint 0:36
And what's fascinating to me is the main roads, as you've been driving, are fine, right?
Logan (host) 0:42
Totally fine.
Quint 0:42
Totally fine. But the minute you go into any neighborhood... Every man for himself! It hasn't been touched. Armageddon. It's terrible. And that's where buses go. Right. And so, you know, our kids have been out of school. They'll be out of school all week. For sure. Until we get some warmth. And I don't know when that's coming.
Logan (host) 1:04
In the hardest part, people always, like, I think, say, like, Kentucky, you don't even know what winter is. We don't get snow. Like, we get ice. Like, we had five inches of snow, and then we had an inch of ice. So it shut down. Like, town's over.
Quint 1:17
Yeah. And you think about, and this could be changing, it'll be interesting the discussions they have, you know, in the, I guess, government around the finances, but until this year, maybe a little bit last year, but I certainly don't remember this. We had a couple weeks of some nasty weather and it went away pretty quickly, but... Uh, there's no reason to invest in the, you know, equipment, the trucks, the salt for just to sit there. You have a several mild winters and now you've just spent millions of dollars for no reason whatsoever.
Logan (host) 1:51
It's the same way when like we get a, we got a car and they asked if you want all wheel drive, a full wheel drive. Now for this week, I really wish I had all wheel drive, but we get one snow a year. So I go full wheel drive cause there's no reason to pay an extra three grand.
Quint 2:04
Yeah, it's interesting. And I mean, again, with the kids out of school, I mean, no clients want to come into the office. So meetings are changed. If you still have them, you have them on Zoom. I have to force myself to get out of my like sweatpants. And like, okay, I'm actually going to, you know, go to the gym, get on the treadmill, which I hate, but it is what it is. Will you put on some pants? You know, get the runs in, do the things. But we were talking yesterday. We were in the office. And it's like, no, you have to still do this or you can easily get sucked into this sloth-like mentality. And then when the world does open back up, you're like, oh, now I got to go back to work. Now I got to do this.
Quint 2:47
So anyways.
Unknown 2:48
Hey, bro, you mind putting on some pants? I find it a little weird I have to ask twice.
Quint 2:51
What else is going on in your world? Well, I mean, we can talk about the markets a little bit.
Logan (host) 2:55
Markets are unbelievable.
Quint 2:56
Yeah, what a great start to the year. It's interesting because just when you feel... I certainly feel this way. Markets have... been fatigued and you know in dire need of a of a pullback and it looked like we were gonna get one there and who knows we still may but now we are you know through the month of january and and markets are close to all-time highs we're in the throes of earnings season for the most part so far they've been relatively good uh and and we have no shortage of of news or or cross currents that could take the market down. And it and it shows us once again, like it's it's so difficult to time the market. Absolutely.
Logan (host) 3:42
Right.
Quint 3:42
We we in our firm as advisors and proactive investment managers have been dialing back risk. for like the last year. And candidly, you're like, well, why? I mean, that's dumb. Why would you do that? Now, I, again, been in this business a very long time. At some point, you're going to be pleased to have done that. But when I say dialing back the risk, it's not taking the 35-year-old and going, okay, you know, even though you've got a 40-year time horizon and
