Where did that Oscar the Grouch come in? I don't know where that came in. I've never done that. 700 million episodes.
Allie Howard 0:26
Usually you go like loud and...
Quint (host) 0:29
Yeah, what's going on, A. Howard?
Allie Howard 0:31
How you be?

How do Quint and Allie introduce the episode and personal updates?

Allie Howard 0:32
Same old, same old. I feel like I was thinking about it this morning. The people need an update on you. How's your running game? How's your life?
Quint (host) 0:39
All right, well, let's hit a couple spitfire things. Number one, running. I'm running. Everything is great. I am currently not training for anything, but we're getting the band back together. Training begins May 26th.
Unknown 0:50
Now, you're not going back on the road no more, and you ain't playing no more two-bits, lazy dice.
Quint (host) 0:55
targeting a September marathon I'm really excited about that I met with my buddy who I trained with for like ever last year eight months and I was kind of you know in the doldrums a little bit and I told him I said you know just I don't know if we'll ever be able it was like a relationship show it was like I was like, I don't know if we'll ever be able to recreate what we had last year. It was so special. And he was like, he's running the Berlin Marathon, and he's like, what are you talking about? I'm running Berlin, and you have a marathon in September because he knew I was looking at one. And I said, yeah, but you're going to run that and just enjoy it.
Allie Howard 1:27
But it's just not the same.
Quint (host) 1:28
It's not the same. He's like, no, no, I'm going to train hard. Game on! I was like, sweet. I was like, well, you get in the lab, and you let me know. And so two hours after lunch, he sent me a note, and he was like, training begins May 26th.
Allie Howard 1:42
What does get in the lab mean?
Quint (host) 1:44
So he is very scientific when it comes to the training program. Okay.

What running and training plans does Quint describe and why do they matter?

Quint (host) 1:49
You know, what to do, when to do it, you know, taper, the whole nine. I mean, there is, whether it's training, whether it's nutrition, I mean, whether it's rest. So dovetail, second update. This is day, I want to say 14 or 15, I don't remember, of no caffeine.
Allie Howard 2:08
And I am back on the train yet.
Quint (host) 2:11
I have back off the train. I do this periodically. I am certain I've talked about this before. I'm certain I've gotten on, gotten off, et cetera. It got so bad and I'll be a little vulnerable here. It got so bad that I was taking to sleep overnight. I was taking an over the counter like sleep gel pill thing and And then I'd still wake up in the middle of the night, and I'd have a little bit of the melatonin gummy by my bed, and I'd take a little bite of that to fall back asleep. Jeez. Then get up in the morning, and even though you sleep all night, you're not really getting restful sleep. So I'm pounding coffee all morning, right, just to get through. By 4 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon, I was toast. I mean dragging butt.
Quint (host) 2:58
And I was like, this has got to end. So I got off the coffee. The first two days were horrific. Horrific. I went to go meet my son for lunch, and I got there a little bit early, 1130, fell asleep in my car. He's knocking on my window. Dad, we going to lunch or what? I'm like, yep, my bad. I'm up. Here we go. That's bad. Took me three or four days to get over the hump. I have energy. I'm great. Everything. It's wonderful. The true test will be that first time that I have a really crappy night's sleep or I'm traveling or something, and then I have an important meeting in the morning. That will be the true test because I'll want that extra edge, whatever. In the same vein, you asked, so here we go.
Allie Howard 3:44
Oh, I'm ready.
Quint (host) 3:44
In the same vein of the no caffeine, which has, man, just been phenomenal, and I hope I can keep it up, I'm trying desperately to, like, improve my sleep. I've not gotten the Wootband or the Oura Ring yet. What? Bro, what are you talking about, man? But I'm probably going to get one of those to track, to actually get the science behind it when I log into an app or whatever.
