How do the hosts introduce the episode and listener contest?
Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show.
Welcome back. Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money. I'm so glad you're fired up. Let's go. It took you a little while in the beginning there. I needed a second. I'm back. And now we don't have to recount that story that we talked about last podcast, so we can cut right to this podcast. Before we do, however, let's get a word from our sponsors. All right, and just as a word to all of you listeners, especially you new listeners or you young new listeners out there, I know, listen, it's going to be the first of the year, and you're like, oh, I got all this flush cash from the holidays, all these stocking stuffers and gift cards, but why not send us an audiophile question about what to do with all that money, and we'll send you another $25 Amazon gift card.
How about that?
What?
Did we just become best friends? Yep. That's a good idea, right? Send that to podcast at diymoney.org. That's podcast at diymoney.org. And guess what, Logan? What? We got a junior today. Let's go. But before we get into the junior question, which as you know, I love the junior questions. I want to know, as we roll into 2026, we basically have a week left in 2025, so this one's gone. He's gone. He's gone. What is one of the number one things you are looking to do goal-wise in 2026?
Yeah, so I could talk a million things about our business because obviously a lot is changing there, but you can go back to previous episodes and listen to that. From a personal standpoint, with me and my wife, we are aggressively, aggressively paying down debt in the next year. And my wife, just in the last couple weeks, started her PA job. So we now have two incomes coming in. And student loans, ironically, start in about three weeks is when they kick in. And now we have to make our first payments in there. So we are going to be aggressively paying off debt and socking as much money away there as possible. We have talked many times on this podcast about being very granular about it. So we have done that.
We have a schedule. We know how much money we're applying to it. It's pretty simple. It's like live off my income, use her income to apply towards the loans and do it very aggressively.
I love it. That's excellent. Mine is boring because of the one I'm going to share here is boring because it's been the same goal I've had for two years.
Stop being so good looking.
Which I've fallen short. Even after running a qualifying time, I know everybody's rolling their eyes out there. I get it. You don't want to hear it. It's done with this. But even though getting a qualifying time by four minutes and ten seconds, I still will not be towing the line in Boston in April. And that's driving me nuts. But I'm going to try again. One more try. So I'm going to be training hard. I am like a maniac when it comes to training, not in a good way. Like there's days like this morning when I woke up and I said, why do I run at all? Like I don't want to run. It's cold and windy and miserable outside. And I was going to quit. Not just that day. Like I was going to give up running for probably ever.
And 20 minutes later, I'm out doing my stupid run. And I'm like, well, if I run a mile and I still want to quit, I'm going to go home and quit. And the next thing you know, I did my workout eight miles later, and it was miserable. But I got it done. 26 is the year. If I can train through and be healthy through April, I will go out there and destroy my goal. I've never felt like this. It's almost like an anger.
What personal New Year goals do the hosts discuss for 2026?
I'm like a revenge runner now. Anyways, that's not healthy, by the way. I've heard horror stories of that. Let's get to our... A junior question. We probably should have had things to talk about that were a little more relevant to our junior listener because he's going to be listening to this. So sorry, Leo. I'd like to know what your goals are.
