How do hosts introduce the episode and set the tone for money advice?
Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show. back ladies and gentlemen you're listening to another edition of diy money diy money howard in the house what's popping q you just went on vacation how was it oh my goodness i went to the beach our listeners probably know this about me but i don't sit down when i go on vacation vacation to me is like we're gonna hike a mountain or we're gonna go like to have an itinerary from 7 a.m to 10 p.m It was so nice.
I hope someday. I get it. My prayer for you is that someday you do have the privilege of being a mom. I hope you're blessed with children because you're going to be that mom who's like, all right, let's go. We are hiking at 7. We are having lunch on the top of the canyon at 12. We have to be back down by 2 because we have a whatever. And then we're craft making at 4 and sunset cruise.
What personal travel stories reveal hosts’ spending and lifestyle priorities?
And your kids are going to be like, oh, my gosh. Oh, 100%. When I tell you to move, you'll move fast. When I tell you to jump, you're going to say, how high? But they will look back on these exhausting trips that you planned for them with great nostalgia. It will be amazing. Yeah. My kids now, at the age they're at, if I'm like, okay, guys, hey, we're going to get up and go for a bike ride. They're like, are you serious? This is vacation. Like, we just want to lay around. You spoiled them. What? Oh, yeah. What? We are opposites in that. We do very little on vacation, and it's glorious. We might play a little pickleball now and again, but that's about it.
Go out to dinner is the biggest task of the day.
The question of the day is where we're eating at dinner time.
Well, so we stayed with my uncle and he was kind of getting on us because we would be sitting like eating lunch and our topic of conversation was like, so what's for dinner? And he was like, do you guys just talk about where you're going to eat next? And we're like, yes.
Yes, that's exactly what we do.
So it was awesome. Very restful, well needed. And now I should be good for a few years. Years? I can go do crazy vacations.
The next trip is... Yeah, we're going to see Tony Phil again or whatever. Yeah, Banff. Can't wait to hear about Banff. The Canadians, eh? It's going to be great.
You're such a hoser, eh?
All right, a couple of household odds and ends. Thanks to, first of all, all the new listeners out there, the... those people checking us out on YouTube, share it with your friends. I think that's having impact. At least that's what I'm hearing. So if you find a message that strikes a chord, send it on. I just listened to our latest one, which was kind of like on market history. It sort of evolved into this dialogue of how the markets began and so forth. And I've already shared that with some of my students and some of my younger sort of guys that I'm mentoring and so forth. I need them I think it's just important to know the history of markets. A lot of these people are involved in markets and so forth.
So, again, thanks so much. Share it with your friends. Check us out on the tribe on Facebook, the DIY Money Tribe. Follow us on all the social channels. And we still need questions. So send those audio questions to podcast at diymoney.org. That's podcast at diymoney.org. If we put it on the show, like today's, we will send you a $25 Amazon gift card. We got one from Joel. Joel, what do you got? D-I-Y.
Hey DIY Money, Joel from Dallas here. Just wondering if you could give us some advice on how much cash is too much cash. For reference, my wife and I have a paid for house. All of our vehicles are paid off and our liquid net worth is about 2.8 million. We currently have about $300,000 plus or minus in cash and money market accounts. Wondering if we should put some of it to work or do something else. Any advice you can give us is appreciated. Thank you.
Okay, Joel, great question. First of all, bravo to you. Sounds like you guys are in a fantastic position. So this is certainly not going to apply to the vast majority of our audience, but I think we can answer it in such a way that would be sort of cross-pollinating folks that are just getting started all the way to Joel's situation where clearly has built up a very nice net worth.
