Quint (host) 0:02
Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show. Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money. It's been a while since you've been here. Back in action. Welcome back. Back in the U.S. of A. Yeah, you were on a big trip. It was amazing. Three weeks in Italy. Oh, grazie. Grazie. Wait, I don't know why I just told you thank you. But anyways, it was amazing. What made it amazing, not only was Italy amazing. If you've never been, you're listening to this, put it on the bucket list. Make sure you do it because it's awesome. But I had 10 kids from the University of Kentucky, and they were fantastic.
Quint (host) 0:47
That's awesome. And that's always like, you know, how are we going to do this? You know, some kids never traveled ever. And, you know, are they going to go overseas and freak out? Or are they going to be, you know, are they going to be flexible and, you know... whatever malleable to the travel changes which happen all the time and they were awesome but it all worked out great it all worked out and i'll tell you and i won't spend too much time on this um but i didn't realize how i had evolved over the three weeks into a much slower pace and it's not like when you go on a beach vacation and you know within within four hours you're like looking good billy ray Feeling good, Lewis. Right. You're in the lounge chair.
Quint (host) 1:31
You got your book. You got your beer, whatever. You went from 100 to zero in an hour, right? That didn't happen for me. It took days because I was responsible for kids. So I was kind of like on edge. I was making sure everything was happening. But at some point in time, throughout the three weeks, I slowed down. Personally, a tremendous amount. Just because the culture is so much. Culture, but also they're six hours ahead. So I'd get an entire day of activity in before you were up. Well, not you. You were up at five. I'd always ping you and be like, five. 5 a.m. club. He's like, no, no, no. But anyways, but most people write 6, 7, 8 in the morning is when maybe emails start, the market, the futures are active, there's news happening.
Quint (host) 2:20
So it was like 2, 3 in the afternoon before anything was happening here. So I'd sit down. I'd do some work for a few hours, and then I'd go to dinner and call it a night. And so the pace of everything, in addition to the culture, having a full day where nothing was really happening, then having a few hours working, et cetera, and taking care of odds and ends. I don't feel like I missed anything. I didn't miss a beat. But I slowed down considerably. I say that because when I came back— After jet lag, right, the first weekend was miserable. But then Monday began and come back in the office and start doing things. And I'm like pissed off at the world. And it's not like I'm post-vacation, not like, oh, I want to be at the beach.

What personal trip stories do the hosts share and why do they matter?

Quint (host) 3:01
This sucks, right? No, like, why are you texting me? Why do I have to get back to you right now? Like, why do I need to respond to this email? Why do I got to go to this meeting? Yeah. And what was interesting is somewhere around Tuesday, maybe even yesterday morning, which was a Wednesday morning, so three days in the business week, I finally went, oh, we're back to urgent. We're back to everything is urgent, everything is an emergency. And it's not, but we make it that way.
Unknown 3:26
It just makes me want to...
Quint (host) 3:28
Oh, God. And that's okay. I mean, it's fine. It's how we operate. We go 95 miles an hour and what we do every single day. But when you're not, when you've gotten accustomed to going 25 and then you come back and you're going 95, holy cow, it took some adjustment. Are you just exhausted this weekend? No, no, I'm good. I'm back. I mean, caffeine, running. I mean, just I'm back in it. It's fine. But I didn't realize how much I had slowed down. It was really good for the soul. Good. Really good for the soul.
Logan (host) 3:58
Good. Fantastic. Well, let's do some housekeeping odds and ends and stuff, and then we'll get to our great question that we have today.
