Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money.
Allie Howard 0:18
DIY Money. What's happening? End of the year.
Quint (host) 0:22
You know what I love? Recently listening to the podcast when Steve edited and threw in Nate Bargatze. Is it Bargatze? Bargatze? Whatever. Bargatze? It was phenomenal.
Allie Howard 0:36
It was awesome.
Quint (host) 0:36
Shout out. to Steve, producer Steve. Been with us from the very beginning. Love him. Great guy. Unbelievable editing skills. You know, you hear him on national commercials now too. He's like big time.
Allie Howard 0:47
Steve or Nate Bargatze?
Quint (host) 0:48
Steve. Wait, really? Yeah. Yeah. Steve does commercials all over the nation.
Allie Howard 0:52
Oh, I didn't know that.
Quint (host) 0:52
I have been traveling and I'll hear some commercial on the radio and it's Steve. I know it. And he's laughing right now because he knows it's him too. I know it's you, Steve. All right, so we're rolling into New Year's. What does A. Howard do on New Year's Eve?
Allie Howard 1:07
I honestly have no idea. I do something different every year.
Quint (host) 1:11
You set me up for failure.
Allie Howard 1:13
No, I was going to ask you. Let's talk about New Year's Eve. I was like, well, tell me great things. No, you always have a big party. I want to hear about how that's coming along this year.
Quint (host) 1:20
So three or four years ago, we were doing nothing on New Year's Eve, meaning you're out of a stage. There's a period where you go through, you have kids, younger kids especially, and you're like... okay, we'll try to watch the ball drop. You know, I mean, you go through these cycles, right? So I'm like in my 20s, it's like New Year's Eve. Yeah, that's awesome. And you stay up till like the next Tuesday and it's just unbelievable. And then you get older and you're like, oh my gosh, I just, I have a run tomorrow. I need to get into bed. And then you have kids and they kind of want to stay up and watch the ball. And I've even done the thing where I've played it on YouTube and like, oh, it's dropping, it's dropping, get down.
Quint (host) 1:54
It's like 10, 30, 10, nine, eight. And then they go and we call it a night. We're in bed. Okay. How did you matter? All right. Well, now we're at the stage. Kids are older. They're staying up. We don't really care, you know, as long as we know where they are. And there was this one year where our kids were like, hey, we're talking about going over to so-and-so's house or we're going over to so-and-so's having a party or whatever. So I looked at my wife and I said, why don't we just have a New Year's Eve party here? Like, we'll just invite all of our friends. All of our friends have children that are roughly our kids the same age. They hang out with them anyway. We know they're at our house. And so we did impromptu messaging out.
Quint (host) 2:29
Now everybody's in the same life stage. So what is everybody going to do? They were going to go to bed anyways. So they're like, sure, we'll come over. We thought this thing was going to be low key. All right. Show up around nine o'clock. We'll have, you know, a divs, maybe a little champagne. All right. But of course, you know, you're in Kentucky. So people bring out the bourbon. We had a couple of mixed drinks. All right. The next thing you know. Right. I'm listening to like Tupac and it's one o'clock and people are in my kitchen and we're just throwing down. It was unbelievable.
Unbelievable.
Quint (host) 3:04
The last person left our house, I think, at 3.30, 4 o'clock in the morning. That's crazy. It was epic. The next day, I get up at, I don't know, whatever time. I slept in a little bit, had to. The next day, I get up, and I go to Kroger because we don't have anything else for breakfast. Didn't prep well for that. I think we actually made bacon and eggs that night at 2 in the morning for the kids, who were all still there, by the way. And I go there and they have all the New Year's Eve stuff discounted. And I'm like, game on. I buy everything that doesn't have a year on it, I owned. I bought it all. Like, I carried up. Like, I left five pieces of the little thing.
