DIY Money.
You know what I just realized right before we started this episode? What? I just took my last sip of coffee. I'm crushed. I'm not even going to lie. That last sip always gets you. In the back of my mind as I intro'd that, I was like, it's fine. I don't need more coffee. I'm fine.
That's not true. Don't freak out.
I'm freaking out.
Yeah, you're one of those people, Allie, that I don't talk to you in the morning until you've had that first cup of coffee.
And that's for the best. I don't... For the record, I don't want to be that way. I just don't know how to get through it. Like... I've tried to drink my coffee at 7 and sit and stare into the abyss for an hour. I'm still in a bad mood until like 10 a.m.
To be fair, you at 11 p.m. is probably a whole different version of me at 11 p.m.
Thriving.
Which I am out. Last night I went to bed at 8.30. It was glorious. It was fantastic. It really was.
That's the last thing I want. 8.30, I'm like, man, what are we going to do the rest of our night? I'm just getting started.
No, I start thinking about bed.
I don't, I feel like I don't stay up that late though. Like I know people our age who are up till midnight, 1am doing who knows what, but I go to, I'm in bed by like 11. That's not unreasonable.
It sounds horrible. Have you ever heard the saying before the early bird gets the worm? You know, the late worm that slept in, he's alive.
Okay, well, I don't have any more coffee, so everyone bear with me, okay? We're going to do the best that we can.
You can stay fired up.
Come on. Yeah, that's true. Okay, so we're kicking off a new series. That's something to get fired up about. Today, the money map. We worked really hard on the name. A lot of whiteboarding that. But basically, a few weeks ago, I think, maybe a month now, I discovered a study. So number one, we've got to give a shout out to Dave Ramsey because a lot of the next few episodes are going to be based on the study that he came out with. But the study was super fascinating. And his synopsis of interviewing a bunch of millionaires was that it's actually not as hard to become a millionaire as people think. Yep. And that oftentimes the people he interviewed who became millionaires did not do it because they got an inheritance and they made a trillion dollars and they were an anesthesiologist or like any of these things that a lot of people have in the back of their mind of like, oh, yeah, of course, they're a millionaire.
Instead, what he found was that these millionaires were made because of discipline, which we just talked about in the last few episodes and because of intentionality. And so over the next few episodes, we want to break down different aspects of that study and to some extent debunk some of these myths surrounding what a millionaire is. But for the sole purpose of helping you realize you, yes, you listening in the car or watching on YouTube or however you're choosing to watch this podcast can be a millionaire. And I mean that.
You can do it.
Because the more I read into this study, the more fascinated I am by it and the more motivated I am by it. That it's not necessarily getting that lottery ticket or making a ton of money you don't know what to do with it. It's taking what you have and being disciplined and making sure you put money in the right places. So... The way I want to kick this off is one of the most fascinating parts of the study to me was talking through the five careers that people indicated. Now, to be clear, I don't know on this study if they just gave them a list of like 20 and they're like, check the one that's most accurate or if people listed it. I don't know like how broad the categories were.
We didn't give the survey.
To be clear, yeah, we did not. But I thought one of the most fascinating things was on the top five careers, and you can sit and think or pause and try to think through what you think the five are.
