Welcome back. Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money.
DIY Money. What's shaking, Howard? Happy spring. Spring is in the air. I'm so much happier.
Spring. Hey, shout out to our great new sponsors. This is fantastic.
The state of Ohio.
What is the origin and purpose of the DIY Money podcast?
Well, we don't know. I mean, I actually had it dawned on me that not everybody's probably getting that ad because if you're in California, you might not be getting it. Maybe you are. Maybe they're trying to recruit you as well.
They probably already booked their flights to Ohio.
Yeah, it's not done yet, so be patient with us, but we're going to overhaul. We are in the process of overhauling our YouTube channel and video and so forth. We've got this new cool studio, and I'm just really excited. We'll even try to bring back the tribe. It probably won't be on Facebook, but we're going to bring back the DIY tribe. Can you hear the sound effect now?
Yep.
Do you think people know what you look like? Me? Yeah, because we haven't done videos in so long.
I'm sure they do. I don't know.
I remember the first time. That's true. The first time I saw you and Daniel and Logan in person, my brain was like, what's going on?
Well, according to what I know about our fans, I gather to say I'm the more handsome one in terms of who's handsome. Because you didn't look it up?
I mean, I knew what you looked like. Or maybe the first time I just saw a picture of you.
I didn't know you were bald. I think what they get shocked at is when they see me with red curly hair. I've never seen you with hair. No, I do not have hair.
We should do, when we start doing the videos, I guess it's going to ruin it if, you know what? It'll be a surprise for the first video. You have to go to the YouTube and keep an eye out because the first video, we're going to have something awesome going on.
Well, I'm excited. You know, just a little historical background. First of all, thanks for showing up. And we love all the folks that are tuning into the show. And we're going to talk about a little strategic shift that we want to make here in just a minute. But I'll tell you the evolution, you know, six or seven years ago now, Uh, I, I went through, I mean, candidly, I'll just call it what it is a little bit of a midlife crisis. I had turned 40 and hit some big goals in my life and then realized very quickly, wow, that's not as fulfilling as I thought it would be. Uh, and you know, if you've gone down that path, you know exactly what I'm talking about. And so I, I spent some time away and, and prayer and journaling and, and it was like, all right, you know, what's, what, what do I need to do to get to write the ship here?
And, And really what I what I felt called to be doing is serving people, serve more people. In fact, I you know, if you struggle with with motivation or and again, this is not I'm not a doctor. So you need to see a doctor, please do, because this is serious stuff. But one of the things is, is that if you if you serve people who cannot repay you, by the way, There's the most incredible amount of joy and fulfillment that you can get from that process. And I used to have a good friend. Well, he's still a good friend. And whenever I was kind of in a funk, he's done this a couple of times in my life. He would ask me, he said, who are you serving that cannot serve you back? And I would be like. He'd always get me with that.
I'm like, gosh. And the truth is that there would be nobody at that moment. There would be nobody that I would be serving who could not serve me back. And so that was an answer a lot of times to me getting out of my funk. Anyways, it came away from that weekend, and DIY Money was born. The ability to serve people who will never step foot in our office and really just articulate a message, answer questions, and help people, again, who might never step foot in our office.
