Welcome back. Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money.
DIY Money. Which I can look at not much. 5 a.m. Club. 5 a.m. Club is a little bit harder in the cold weather. I will say it's like so cold here. And the last couple of weeks have not been great. I have been eating fantastic. Nice. For the beginning of this year. So that's been really good.
You're doing a January reset or something?
January reset to a degree. Yeah, there's some other components to it, but it's been really good. And that's been fantastic. So eating's been good. Things have been on point. I got a lot of goals this year. A lot of things I want to hit. So it's a very focused year. That's good.
Yeah. Quantitative, qualitative, a little bit of both?
A little bit of both. You know... More intentional on reading, getting into different things for business, for personal. More intentional on the working out and fitness goals. Just in general. I feel like a lot of my goals maybe last year were more abstract. More like, oh, I want to be healthier and want to be working out more and that kind of thing. But these goals this year are much more like put numbers with that. Like, okay. If I want to gain 20 pounds of muscle, these are the steps that I have to do.
Yeah, we should do it.
Tracking macros, et cetera.
I will be world's strongest man one day.
I will win it for America. We should do a separate podcast on that.
How did the hosts describe their own goal resets and lessons learned?
I mentor young people, and there was a young man that I was meeting with before he went back to college, and I said, so what are your goals this year? And he was like, I'm sorry, what?
What?
And I always do that. Like, there's no, in my opinion, no point in mentoring unless you're really, okay, what are we trying to achieve and what are we getting, you know, what are we progressing towards? So he kind of fumbled and bumbled, which is fine. I put him on the spot and he said, well, one of his things was a certain GPA. And I said, well, how's your GPA now? And he told me and I said, so what do you need to do to get the end? You know, like it was for the year, right? We're halfway through. And he said, and I said, what do you need to do to get that? And so my point is, is that I was asking him those questions. He was not prepared for that. He didn't know. Anyways, I proceeded to tell him a story of setting goals, index cards, you know, so on and so forth, what I do every year.
And he goes, man, that's, you know, that's what I need to do. Like, I need to do that. And I explained to him the five Fs and so on and so forth. And so I just this morning, for whatever reason, he popped in my brain and I was driving here and at a stoplight, fully safe, completely standing still in the car, whatever. I sent him an audio text and I said, send me a photo of your index cards. Hipster PDA. Yeah. I have not heard back. Although he's a student in college, so he'll probably get this around noon. But it'll be interesting. to see. So it's so important. My goals this year, I've spent now considerable time on that post the run that we talked about a couple episodes ago, are more qualitative. I have a kid going off to college, so it's, you know,
Qualitative slash quantitative, making sure he and I are spending appropriate amount of time together before he leaves. Fitness goal is ironically, and you can imagine this, no different than it was last year. So, you know, because we didn't hit it, we have some work to do there.
If you do that, if you have the same goal that you had a previous year and you didn't meet it, what are the things you're doing to change that?
Yeah, great question. We don't have enough time to totally go into this, but obviously evaluating why I didn't hit that in the first place, and there's some science behind that, and there's some mental aspect behind that. I talked about that a little bit.
Because I went through the same process this year, because I have very similar goals, but they're a lot more concrete, and they're a lot more, okay, I have to do these five components to meet that.
