What personal story introduces the episode and why does it matter for long-term investing?
Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show. Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. You're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money. What's shaking, Logan? What's shaking with you? I feel like... Oh, God. I'm laughing. I want to take people behind the scenes a little bit on how we do this because we prep for our questions, of course. You would gather that, I'm sure. But what we don't prep for is what we talk about previously. prior to the podcast but occasionally we'll be like hey what do you want to talk about you know like prior to the real podcast and so logan did that and i said i don't know what's going on in your life i don't know nothing okay and i just go let's just go and then
I go, what's shaking, Logan? I don't know why that's humorous to me. So now I feel like I need to fill in the blanks. You do, actually. Here's a weird thing, and this is my Gen X parents out there, and I know there's a lot of you.
Okay, boomer.
I am, my wife and I are going to visit my son at college this weekend. Nice. And I'm very excited about that. We also, this is, I'm cutting, we're cutting this on a Friday. And like normal people, we couldn't head down on Friday because we had a son in state swimming on Friday. So we're here still and did that all day. So are you driving down? No, we are flying to Atlanta tomorrow morning, rent a car, drive the 90 minutes to Auburn, spend time with him. go to the game etc but it's it's this mindset of like i'm going to visit my my kid you know who's usually upstairs and i'm like stop yelling into the freaking computer right it's just a different mindset and anytime this is again maybe this is just for me and nostalgia and you just all have to bear with me but anytime i start thinking about that what am i reminded of
I'm not that old.
You look that old.
How fast life goes. And if you're out there and you are younger listening to this, I get it. I hated when people told me that too. Like, yeah, I understand. But right now, the freaking weekend can't come soon enough. And it's only Tuesday. So don't tell me how fast life goes. I got an exam. I got a paper due. Like, I hate you. Right? I hated when they... But the days are long. The years are so short. Now, why am I bringing this up? Because if you are on a financial trajectory, and we hope all of you are in some degree or another, like meaning you're not aimlessly going through your financial life. By the way, did you see the TikToker who was working out and he said what people think I'm listening to? And then he like played like a metal band.
And then he said what I'm really listening to. And it was a cut from our podcast. Oh, was it really? No, I didn't see that. I wish I remembered his name. That's awesome. Like millions of views. That's awesome. Maybe our stats even go up. But I don't think he... Anyways, whatever. It was really cool. I thought that was a good clip. But nonetheless, actually, I might steal that. That's a good idea. We should use that one. Anyways, but you're on a financial trajectory, meaning you're not aimlessly just going. And sometimes it can be daunting. You think to yourself, oh, my goodness, retirement is so far away or paying off this debt is so far away. And you tend to really get... sort of overwhelmed with how long it will take, no matter what, that time is going to pass, and eventually you'll be looking at it in the rearview mirror.
The only question is, did you execute, and are you in the place you want to be at that moment? Are you looking back going, I should have started earlier? I can't believe I did it, and now it's too late or whatever. Or did you start? And, yeah, sometimes it's long. It's a pain in the butt. But you'll look back. And why do I say all that? Again, I'm going to see my kid. I remember putting money, opening the first custodial account, putting money in, and thinking... 100 grand? Like, how are we going to get to 100 grand in this account?
