Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. You're listening to another edition of DIY Money.
DIY Money. Hey, Howard in the house. You are wired today, Quint.
I am wired, and I have no caffeine. I'm just full of life. I am high on the life energy. And your race is next weekend? Next Saturday. Yep, next Saturday. And I'll tell you why I'm full of energy, because I'm in this glorious period of training called... And for those of you that know, that run, that train and have a plan or whatever, your mileage decreases considerably. It's glorious. Although your body starts to freak out. Like I've had little aches and pains that I'm like, what is this? Like, this is not normal. And apparently it's normal to feel that your body's kind of repairing itself. But I went from, I was averaging around 60 miles a week for the last several weeks, like maybe the last month and a half or so, six weeks, eight weeks.
And I think this week I'll do like 35. That's too far to run, jog, or frankly drive, let's be fair.
Wow.
So it's so nice.
What are you going to do with all your newfound time?
recover and prepare and eat a lot of pasta so yeah blow and be ready to go so I'm jazzed I mean I'm really excited I'm gonna give it give it my all my headspace is great I'm in a much better frame of mind than I was you know a year ago so I'm really I'm really excited and shout out to all the people on Strava that are reaching out, that are DIY money people that are following, that are cheering me along. It's really neat. It's a really cool community. And I got my boy Blake out there. He's my new Strava BFF, and he is rocking it. He is in Chattanooga, and he is training for a race, and he's trying to break three hours. And, I mean, you talk about dedication, and what goes into that is absolutely –
I don't know, just mind-blowing, absolutely mind-blowing.
Do you know the mile split for that?
Yeah, it's like 640 or something like that. Yeah, it's a lot. I mean, it's a lot. Not to be outdone, of course, by the Tuberts, the husband and wife team, although Alicia's the only one. Alicia, what's up with your boy? Is he not on Strava or something? We're not BFFs on Strava? I don't like you. Leave me alone. but Alicia Tubert down in Knoxville, uh, they're a, they're a dynamic duo and they run, they like win races. And I mean, they kill it. They absolutely kill it. And I come back. It's kind of funny. I don't know if you know anything about Strava. Do you know anything about Strava?
No, not really.
So Strava is like, Oh, like it's like a humble brag. Like it's not social media, but it's not social media. Uh, And so you connect to your watch and it immediately goes up and people give you, you get endorphins, right? People give you thumbs up or kudos for a good run or something like that, which I love. I mean, you need it. I think it's needed. But the two birds are funny because I'll, I'll run, I'll go out for a run. I'll feel really good about, you know, repeats I've done or whatever. And then I'll see Alicia like rant 400 miles at a sub seven pace. And she's like, That was a tough one. I'm like, what? Of course it was tough. She just kills. Delete.
Unfriend.
I'm like, oh, come on. I give her a thumbs up. Don't give me that, Alicia. Then I started following a guy on there who has run. He's in Belgrade. I love this guy. He's in Belgrade. He has run over 350 half marathons in a row every day. What? He doesn't run them. That's like a designated race, but he goes out and he runs 13.1 miles every day. And he's done this almost for a full year. He's on a streak of running of over a thousand days. And so obviously sometime last year he was like, Oh, let's start running 13 point, blah, blah, blah. But he does this little video clip and he'll be like, like, he'll be like, you know, don't have time to run, run faster.
But hear me now and believe me later, we can easily crush girly men like grapes.
