What do hosts introduce and why does home ownership come up at the start?

Quint (host) 0:02
Hey, this is Allie, and thanks for listening to the show. Give us a five-star review where you listen and share this episode with someone who might need to hear it. Now, enjoy the show.
Logan (host) 0:13
Ladies and gentlemen, you're listening to another edition of DIY Money. DIY Money. Logan in the house. In his house. We're shaking. So I had a question for you because I have been thinking about this a lot now that I'm a new homeowner and I have just like, we've talked about money pits before, like where money goes. Yeah. Where is the money going that you don't want it to go right now? That's question number one. Okay. So it's like, okay, you don't want to spend money on this, but you just have to. And then question number two, what's the thing you're okay with like throwing down some money on? Like you really enjoy throwing.
Quint (host) 0:45
Yeah, I'll start the second one as I try to compartmentalize. Say you can't think of two things at once. So I'm going to take your first question because I don't really know the answer to that just yet where money is going. Well, I actually do. Boom, I got it. But the second one is experiences which are typically in the form of travel. Okay. I long ago, and now I've read a lot about this, and I hear people talk about how valuable this is, like not maybe valuable is the wrong word, but how important this is for some people, and it's definitely important for me, and that is I love to pay for unbelievable memories.

Wally World?
Quint (host) 1:26
Yeah. Yeah. Wally World. I will not remember the stuff that I bought. In fact, I don't buy expensive stuff anyway, so I can't even think of one off the top of my head. But I can remember countless experiences that I have done with the family or with my wife that have just been amazing.
Logan (host) 1:50
Now, for you guys, is that like, okay, you love going to a certain place or is it new places that are really exciting, or is it just any travel?
Quint (host) 1:58
It can be anything. Like, I mean, a few years ago, my wife's birthday, which is in January, and we had not been anywhere in a while, and I thought to myself, wouldn't it be nice to sort of And this is going to sound terrible.

How do the hosts define where money is being spent and why prioritize experiences?

Quint (host) 2:17
So I'm just going to preface and say I apologize. It sounds pretentious. If you're trying to get out of debt and pay off and blah, blah, blah, like maybe use this as motivation because I couldn't always do this. That's for sure. And I wouldn't if I couldn't, you know, okay. I believe I've earned it. But I was able to over a four-day period. Like we left on Friday and we came back on Monday. We went to Paris. Wow. That's amazing. And I mean, I ironically got a relatively inexpensive flight from Cincinnati. I think it might have been direct. I used points because we use a Marriott Amex for our hotel and I gave it to her for Christmas. And I like I created this little crossword puzzle and And then I gave her these letters, and she had to unwrap the letters, and then she spelled out Paris, and she was like, I don't understand.
Quint (host) 3:16
And I was like, we're going to Paris. And she's like, I'm sorry, what? And I'm like, yeah, like next week. She's like, what? And we hopped on a plane, and it was exhausting. Sure. I mean, boom. It's a marathon, yeah. But it was, we spent two full days walking around Paris, eating, enjoying the sights, the sounds, I mean, everything, and then flew home. That's awesome. And I... Loved it. Every minute of it. So that's the kind of thing, obviously, even with relatively inexpensive flights, it was great. And I would do it again in a heartbeat, in a heartbeat.
Logan (host) 3:53
And what's money going towards that you don't want to take?
Quint (host) 3:56
Yeah, I mean, like you are going through right now, this year we've removed two trees. Makes me want to go into the tree removal business, which I won't. I have great respect. If you remove trees for a living or do any sort of landscape stuff, I have great respect for you. But wow, right? We removed two trees. So what happens when you remove landscaping? Got to put new in. You got to put new landscaping in. And by the way, trees are like buying...
Logan (host) 4:20
Well, what you said a couple weeks ago was that you were not going to do it.
