Quint (host) 0:12
Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. You're listening to another edition of DIY Money.
Allie Howard 0:16
DIY Money. Hey, Howard in the house. Quint, you know what? It rained yesterday for the first time in two weeks.
Quint (host) 0:23
Like for 30 minutes. Knock on wood, I did a four-month training block. I know people are so sick of hearing about this. Not the run. No, I'm just kidding. People don't say that about you as far as you know. And I didn't get caught in the rain one time.
Allie Howard 0:40
Four months. Is this wood? Knock on that.
Quint (host) 0:44
For Micah.
Allie Howard 0:45
I'm excited because this is the last episode that will come out before your race. And so you know we're going to get the update. It's going to come before the race? The race is Saturday.
Quint (host) 0:54
You mean the race that we're cutting?
Allie Howard 0:56
It's the last one we'll cut. And then you'll run it. And then everyone will wait. But they're only going to be waiting a few days.
Quint (host) 1:03
Yeah.
Allie Howard 1:04
Just later.
Quint (host) 1:04
You're going to know.
Allie Howard 1:05
You get the point.
Quint (host) 1:06
I get the point. It's going to be awesome.
Allie Howard 1:07
It's going to be awesome. How are you feeling about fall weather?
Quint (host) 1:10
Can't wait.
Allie Howard 1:10
I love it.
Quint (host) 1:11
We had a football game last weekend. The weather was better as far as not being so, you know, scorching hot. I love fall weather. I love football season. I love this time of year. I don't love it from an allergy perspective.
John (caller) 1:23
Yeah.
Quint (host) 1:23
It wreaks havoc on my allergies. Like it's 40 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. Oop! throw in a 50 degree day there and up some rain and leaves and pollen or whatever else is falling around us. So I don't like that. So as long as I'm up to date on my allergy shots, which is nice because it's right around the corner and I just pop in there and get my shots.
Allie Howard 1:41
This is like, you are such a big advocate of these allergy shots. And they're like custom made for you. And it sounds like wizardry potion. In my personal opinion.
Quint (host) 1:52
So first of all, I've taken allergy shots since I was like, six years old grew up in upstate new york i took allergy shots and then i came to college at the university of kentucky uh in 1996 and i remember thinking oh this is a new state i'm not i don't need my allergy shots Oh, my goodness. New state meant new allergens, okay? That just meant I was going to, like, die from more things down here. And basically within two weeks of being here in University of Kentucky, I was dying. The pollen count, the mold, I mean, it was just off the charts. So University of Kentucky could, you know, contract with my allergist, send down the vials, and blah, blah, blah. And I took them. Send down the vials.

How do the hosts describe personal anecdotes (running, weather, allergies) and why does it matter?

Quint (host) 2:31
Send down the vials.
Yep.
Quint (host) 2:33
The only time in my life, and I talked about this from a hedge fund and the work experience, but the only time I've not needed allergy shots was the two years I lived in Florida. Didn't need them at all.
Allie Howard 2:43
It's too dry for anything to... Yeah, it was amazing. A lot of pollen. Nothing lives in Florida.
Quint (host) 2:46
But what it is, is it's actually the actual allergens that you're allergic to being injected into your body so that you can build a tolerance to them and therefore you are tolerant against the allergens that are in the air. If I didn't do that, I would be on like the Allegra and the whatever, the chemical-based stuff that would make me drowsy or hyper or whatever. And I just don't want to do that. So I do like the natural, you know, the actual allergy shot serum, blah, blah, blah, that shot in my arm. And as long as I keep up with it, as long as I keep up with it, I am pretty good with avoiding getting ill through the allergy season.
Allie Howard 3:30
For now.
Yeah.
Allie Howard 3:31
Yeah, I like it. Well, on that note, we have some sponsors and we've got a good question today. Sponsored this episode, all episodes sponsored by Jewel Financial.
