DIY Money.
Quint (host) 0:19
Hey, Howard, what's shaking?
Allie Howard 0:21
Oh, it's moving weekend. Moving weekend. But no one wants to hear about that. Did you already unpack your race last week with Logan? I did, yeah, yeah.
Quint (host) 0:27
Yeah, it was funny because we started the podcast and he was like, how about, or who's going to win the Super Bowl? I'm like, seriously, dude? No, we're not talking about that. We're talking about me. And then he was like, I know. I'm just fooling with you. And he wasn't, but it was okay. I appreciated, like, you know, he was like, oh, crap. I forgot about that. But, no, it was – yeah, we already unpacked it.
Allie Howard 0:48
So – oh, go ahead.
Quint (host) 0:50
No, I was going to say, and I haven't done anything. Two weeks. I mean, I think I've run twice. That's it. And I'm going to get started again. Sure. Monday. So you decided to be a bump.
Allie Howard 0:59
How was meeting with your running coach?
Quint (host) 1:00
So that's fascinating. That was really good. I – botched the meeting. This was totally a fluke, but I was supposed to have a meeting like three or four days after the race, decompress, whatever. And then like, and it's in the evening cause he has a real job as well. And, and so I, you know, we were home and I like had it set for a certain time. And then the kids, like there was chaos and pandemonium. And like, I was like, I'll take them to practice and blah, blah, blah. And I got in the car and I drove off to practice, took a kid to practice and I'm sitting at practice and I'm talking to other parents and I, I totally no called, no showed. No call, no show. That's unlike you. Not like me at all. Bueller.
Unknown 1:39
Bueller.
Quint (host) 1:40
Now, that said, I will add that we rescheduled the following week, and I'm so glad I had a week to 10 days because what I was feeling like three or four days after the race, which was like, I'm ready to sign up for another. Bring it on. I'm going to crush it. This is going to be awesome. After about a week, I was like, do I really want to run another race? I might be done with my competitive running streak. No, you're going to win Boston. Come on, Quinn. It was funny because then I got to remove the emotion, have some time to decompress, got a chance to chat with him, had a really good conversation, and We're back to training. And the way I unpacked it, I told Logan and runners who know this would know, even though I qualified, I reached my goal of qualifying for Boston.
Quint (host) 2:31
I did so with four minutes and ten seconds to spare, which is normally a pretty good amount. But there's no guarantee I get into Boston.

How did Quint's recent race experience influence the conversation?

Quint (host) 2:42
And so we don't know yet. We won't know for a few more weeks, maybe by the time this comes out. And, I mean, it's just a crapshoot. I mean, I've heard everything from, you know, there's going to be a six-minute gap, six- or seven-minute gap to, like, a three-minute gap. I mean, it's just speculation. There's a lot of data testing that's been done. So I'm erring on – the idea that I'm not going to get in, believe it or not. But nonetheless, because they only take 24, you're looking at me like I've got three eyeballs. They only take a certain number of, they take 24,000 runners. It's capped 32 or 33,000 qualified. So think about it. Computer system just says, okay, shave a minute off everybody's time. How many are left?
Quint (host) 3:19
Shave another minute. How many are left? And they keep doing that until they get to 24,000.
Allie Howard 3:23
But is there any consideration for age, demographic? Do they try to get some older runners and some younger runners? Or is it literally just time?
Quint (host) 3:32
I would hope so, but I don't know the answer to that. I'm going to say the answer is probably yes. But again, I genuinely don't know the answer to that. So I can't say yes or no. But I won't know for a few weeks. Irrespective of that, I will run again in April. And this is all we should talk about. I should end this saga here. If you want to know more about my running, follow me on Strava if you're a runner out there.
