I think everyone is excited, to be fair. I know the city certainly will be. It's been a while since the city's had a world-class arena like they've got now, so really looking forward to that. I think it'll be a great occasion and another sellout as they keep on doing. People are loving rugby in the city at the moment, which is great.
On that momentum, do you think the crowd could come into play and that the guys can thrive off it?
Yeah, I think it's pretty unique. Like all the lads that have obviously had games here have realised how close the fans are. It's a real experience and you can hear the collisions and you can hear calls and the players talking. So yeah, I'm hoping that the crowd will get behind us. I know they will. It'll be a good test atmosphere for the first one of the year.
your first test week with Dave. How would you describe that working environment? Is there anything different with working under Dave?
Unbelievable. Tremendously clear on what he wants. Pretty strong in his messaging around how that's needed and what's required, which is great, especially for a forwards coach in the forwards. And yeah, we've dug in really deep to the All Black legacy the last couple of days in our non-finalist camp. which has been really authentic and unique to the All Blacks and understanding it a little bit and who we want to be as a team, which has been real special actually.
Having come from the last race, how would you describe it as, whether it's a clean slate, new ideas or some coming over, how would you describe that?
Probably a little bit of balance of both. Like any team, coaches and management team want to put their own mark in things, but there's definitely been a good education piece in understanding the legacy and what works well and what we can evolve. So I think that's been a pretty good balance, to be honest.
There's some unknowns about this French squad that's coming over. What are you expecting from their pack with what research you've been able to do?
Yeah, not a lot unknown for myself. A lot of top 14 players, good side, very big pack and they love their rugby over there at the moment. The top 14's watched a lot of it and I'm pretty excited by the team they're bringing over. It's going to be unbelievable.
For you especially, being from Christchurch, just how special is it to be home for a significant fixture like this?
Yeah, it is. It's nice, you know. It's your home city, isn't it? So it's all that little bit more special and your friends and family will be at the game and as they are probably away games as well. But yeah, no, it's nice. You do take a moment to go, how good is it? Even though I'm at the hotel, I'm not at home, which is good. I've been home long enough lately, so...
Hey, it was almost four years exactly that we spoke to you in this room ahead of the Argentina game. It's hard to believe how fast those four years have gone, but how would you sum up your time with the All Blacks so far?
Have you seen Lone Survivor? Yeah, look, I just try and do my job the best that I can. It's been a few things, a few spanners, you know. been thrown in there and a few different moving parts but you know I'd like to say personally I've just stayed pure to who I am and you know been lucky enough to get an opportunity with Renz and this crew and really looking forward to it.
How challenging has these processes been for you?
Yeah it's well behind me now look there's a little bit of you know uncertainty obviously but you know when I got the message from Renz it was pretty special and yeah
What did it mean when Dave came to you and said that he still wanted you to be a part of this group?
