What is the impact of the September nor'easter on the Northeast?
The Northeast weathers a nor'easter. I'm Daria Albinger, Fox News. Much of the Northeast today is in the grip of a rare September nor'easter. It's brought strong wind, heavy rain and coastal flooding from the mid-Atlantic into New England. There are states of emergency in effect across several counties in New York and New Jersey. Along with New York City, the storm is expected to impact the region through the weekend. New Jersey Congressman Jeff Bandrew tells Fox News Live how he
prepared. I have contacted emergency management. We've contacted the mayors of all our communities. We've contacted the Army Corps, the White House, and FEMA.
How are local officials and Congressman Jeff Bandrew preparing for the storm?
So we're ready. We're
prepared. Fox Weather's Katie Byrne is in Ocean City, New Jersey.
Not only are we seeing some major coastal flooding already, but erosion has been a big significant concern since a couple days ago. A lot of the sand has been eaten away and we've had actually a steep drop off, like a cliff of sand, three to four feet tall, just from the rough surf pounding away and chewing away at that sand. We still have a few high tide cycles to go that will bring a renewed threat for flooding and more erosion.
Some places could get up to a month's worth of rain in just one day. President Trump has rejected Iran's proposal for a 70 ceasefire to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The president telling reporters why he's not ready to make a deal with Tehran.
They want to make a deal and I think that's fine.
What coastal flooding and erosion are being observed in Ocean City, NJ?
I like making a deal too. But that deal would not be acceptable. And what they want to do is immediately open the hormone straight. You know why? Because they're dying. You know why they're dying? Because they have no money coming in. Because they get their money from the hormone straight.
Mr. Trump says the U.S. controls the Strait of Hormuz.
Why is President Trump rejecting Iran’s cease‑fire proposal for the Strait of Hormuz?
He says 29 ships passed through overnight and large amounts of oil are once again moving through the critical waterway following months of disruption. America's listening to Fox News. The toxicology reports are pending for two Ole Miss students who were found dead in separate locations. Kratom was found in both investigations. Here's Fox's Madison Scarpino.
We are expecting those expedited toxicology results as early as next week. That will be pivotal. We know that Kratom was found at both of the separate scenes where these students died. But we do not know if that or any other substance killed them. This Ole Miss community, they want answers.
What are the details and investigation updates on the Ole Miss student deaths linked to kratom?
The two who died are junior Robert String from Georgia and freshman Aiden Hamilton from Colorado. Their families are devastated. So are many students. And the Mississippi Public Safety Commissioner says if determined that Robert and Aiden did ingest something deadly, if it was sold by a particular person or entity, authorities will likely seek some sort of criminal action. Oxford police say authorities served a warrant at a local vape, tobacco and beer store yesterday. Two people were arrested as investigators say they found 500 units of kratom along with other illegal products.
Investigators want to know whether drugs played a role. They're also now ruling out foul play. Americans are cutting back on alcohol with new research showing a notable shift since the pandemic. Here's Fox's Paul Stephens.
How have alcohol consumption patterns changed in the U.S. since the pandemic?
Researchers from USC and Thomas Jefferson University analyzed data from more than 114,000 U.S. adults between 2018 and 2024. They found overall alcohol use fell nearly 2% from 2022 to 2024, while heavy drinking dropped more than 8%. Gen Z saw the biggest decline in overall alcohol use, down more than 5%. But there is an important catch. Despite the recent decline, overall drinking rates remain higher than they were before the pandemic. Paul Stevens, Fox News.
A lot of events today in New York are canceled as a result of the Nor'easter, and that includes the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park. Organizers made the call less than 24 hours before showtime because of the dangerous weather. It's the first time it's been canceled. I'm Daria Albinger. This is Fox News.
