As Mayor Muriel Bowser announced, district public schools will finally open Thursday on a two-hour delay. And yet, we know many of you remain deeply frustrated with messy roads, impassable alleyways and sidewalks. D.C. officials acknowledged sleet, freezing rain and lingering cold temps have made clearing out heaps of snow unusually difficult. They said they've now contracted new heavy construction machinery to break up and scoop up mounds of compact frozen snow. They call Snowcrete and haul it off to RFK.
