Feisty storm. I'm Paul Stevens, Fox News, a big powerful nor'easter hitting the east coast with heavy rain and strong winds running from New England through New York the New York Tri State area. Fox weather's Mike Sidell is in Greenport on New York's Long Island.
The Long Island Sound all churned up. There's a gale warning, the cross sound ferry from here over to New London, Connecticut. Not running today. We've had roads underwater, coastal areas, eastern Long Island, also down towards the Jersey Shore, where they've had tremendous amounts of beach erosion. And by far, New Jersey is going to take the worst of this. And now it's going to take that left turn right into Jersey on Sunday and Sunday night. And then by Monday, it just kind of fizzles out and the winds die down.
Why is New Jersey expected to suffer the worst damage from the storm?
We lose the threat of coastal flooding and the beach erosion. But already the damage has been done. Uh but this is going to be a continuing issue through tomorrow, all the way from uh Cape Cod down to North Carolina. Once the storm weakens, we can assess the damage. But by far, New Jersey getting uh hardest hit.
And parts of New York and New Jersey are under states of emergency. And that's where we find Foxweather's Katie Byrne. She's in Ocean City, New Jersey.
We've got water flooding number of streets here. In fact, high water trucks are coming through the fire department.
How are flooding and road closures affecting communities on Long Island and the Jersey Shore?
They've already been able to rescue at least 10 people stranded in their cars. This situation isn't just impacting how people are getting around. It's cutting off some barrier island communities completely. Long Beach Island cut off the only road connection between the island and the mainland has been closed. And then further south in Wildwood, a bridge was closed or just limiting access. To that community as well. Over in Manisquan, officials have been recommending that people evacuate the low-lying areas because of the flooding that we're seeing. And we know that governors in both New York and New Jersey have declared states of emergency because of the situation that's unfolding, not only impacting us in the Mid Atlantic, but pushing up the coast towards New England.
And again, Fox Weather's Katie Byrne in Ocean City, New Jersey, and America's listening to Fox News. We're still waiting on toxicology results for two old missed students who were found dead in separate locations.

Packages of Kratom were found at both scenes, but investigators are not saying whether or not the drug could have been involved in another incident. Police did seize more than five hundred units of Kratom in a raid at an Oxford, Mississippi store. Fox's Natalie Chuck is in Oxford with more.
18-year-old Aidan Hamilton from Colorado was found in a dorm, and 20-year-old Robert Strang from Georgia was found at an off-campus house. Mississippi Attorney General says she does not have reason to believe these two knew each other, but these eerily similar circumstances have this community concerned. Oxford's mayor telling Fox students need to stay away from taking anything that's not prescribed by a doctor. So Kratom is considered a drug and chemical of concern. By the DEA. It is not FDA approved. In many states, though, it can be bought legally at places like gas stations or smoke shops.
