What impact did the recent winter storm have on the Carolinas?
Record snow in the Carolinas and shattered deep freeze records in Florida. I'm Carmen Roberts, Fox News. A nor'easter bombs out and slams the Carolinas and Virginia with record snow and blizzard conditions. Fox Weathers' Mike Seidel is on the North Carolina Outer Banks.
It was a wild and loud night across the Outer Banks of North Carolina. 50-plus mile an hour wind gusts and then heavy snow in addition to that wind near blizzard conditions. At 530 this morning, near whiteout conditions. As temperatures overnight fell from 30 down to 21, windshields fell into the single numbers.
And this is the second major winter storm in a week. Of course, it's snarling traffic on the roads and the air. Fox's Madison Scarpino reports from Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
This region is just not used to this type of snow and it's triggering tons of flight disruptions and countless travelers are just trying to figure out a backup plan right now. The check-in area of the airport is overflowing with people waiting in a customer service line to try and rebook their flight. Right now nationwide, we're seeing more than 1,400 cancellations, well over 3,000 delays.
Most of those are coming out of here in Charlotte, but the disruptions are also hitting airports in Raleigh, Atlanta, and Myrtle Beach pretty hard.
The partial government shutdown rolls on as lawmakers in Congress spar over federal funding for DHS and ICE, and House Speaker Mike Johnson tells Fox News.
We have to allow ICE to do its job. We have to allow Border Patrol to do its job, and we're going to make sure they have the funding to do that.
The Democrats are calling for ICE reforms to include a code of conduct for federal agents and a requirement that officers identify themselves. And the House will vote on funding legislation on Monday that was passed by the Senate. And that would end the shutdown. Congress has already passed half of this year's funding bills so far.
