He actually resigned in the meeting where he was appointed, and he went to Super League and took the Adelaide Rams job. Yeah, right. So that was his baptism. And then out of that, though, and it shows you how – fortunate you can be sometimes, they signed David Waite out of that. And David Waite was probably the perfect guy for that Dragons group of players.
They were ripped apart a little bit by players that had left for Super League and they were getting pulled from both ends by RRL and Super League. And out of that, David Waite came in and just calmed the squad down, Got them concentrating on footy and took them against all odds, took them all the way to the grand final against Manly that year in 96.
The famous Matthew Ridge tackle when he was tackled, got up, played the ball. We still haven't forgotten that game.
