G'day and welcome to Kenny Blitz, your daily hit of NRL news. And Kenty's back. Kenty, welcome back. Thank you, mate. Yeah, nice to be back. You missed the 200th show by the sounds of it. Yeah, you did. Yeah, you did. Oh, not to worry. Congrats on 200 shows, mate. Yeah. You haven't missed many. I've missed a couple. Yeah, missed a couple here and there. And yeah, obviously it's got off to a slow start this year. But anyway, 200. Thought we'd never make it, was it? Yeah, well done. So we'll see. Once again, thanks to everybody who has been watching us and commenting the whole time. Don't forget to subscribe. We're trying to get to 100,000 subscribers. Over 50% of the people who watch this show don't subscribe, you bastards.
So subscribe. It makes a big difference to us. All right, let's talk, Kenti, a little bit of news coming out of South City that Latrell Mitchell's season may be over. Yeah, look, it's obviously started to get around yesterday. Yeah. And it's big news for South Sydney. He's such an impact player. Without him coming back between here and the finals, it was, I think, 50-50 with him at the finals. If they made the finals, people gave him a slight hope. But I think the season's over, really, for the Rabbitohs now. It's going to be really tough to go without him. He's got to go see a neurologist, some sort of suggestion. It's a nerve problem. He had a calf strain, which became linked to his back. As you know...
the body's all sort of linked together and often when you have hamstring problems and calf problems, it can be because you have tightness in the back or a problem in the back and imbalance sometimes in the back. They're trying to check out exactly, or find out exactly what the cause is for Latrell.
Is Latrell Mitchell’s 2026 season over and what’s the medical reason?
I don't think, look, they're either being a little bit cagey there or they're deliberately vague about it at the moment. It's certainly, when you talk to people around the club, it's a bit hard to know what's going on there. And I think they're still having a look, essentially, to try and really identify what the problem is. You were saying only last week that he's one of your favorite players. So not only is it a big loss for South City, it's a big loss for the NRL. Well, it is. Look, he's a star, isn't he? There's no doubt about that. But he's a fascinating topic, Luttrell. Every time we talk about Luttrell... We get bashed. Well, it's like the old cowboy movies and Indians coming over the hill. You know what I mean?
You're sitting there and you're a stagecoach and suddenly you hear all this yelping going on. Oh, yes. Anyway, but the point is he – but he is a really interesting topic from the point of view – forget Luttrell the person in some respects, but just take into account Luttrell the footballer, his salary – and how often he's on the field. It is a problem that's hard to resolve. Now, everybody will tell you, a lot of ex-players who are commentating in the media, they all will go with the line, mate, when he's fit, you've got to have him, you'll pay whatever you can. That is true. 100% that's true. But that's not the reality because the comment starts with if. If he's fit. He's been there at the Rabbitohs for 166 games.
Of those, he's played 95, he's missed 71. Now, that's a lot of games to miss. And the concern for the club is a variety of different reasons. It's not like... Mal Meninga, when he was playing, he kept breaking the same arm, kept breaking it over and over and over again. Or other players, Tom Travojevic, for example, who's had nine hamstring tears in the last six years or seven years. He has all sorts of reasons. And what you've got to do, and this is what we talk about so often, And fans just seem to forget it or just choose to ignore it. You've got to get value for money in your cap. If your cap is not working and providing value for money, you cannot win the comp. If you're paying $800 for a player, you've got to be getting $800 value out of him.
Now, Luttrell provides that when he's on the field, but he's only on the field literally 60% of the time.
