01 Feb 2026

Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?

0.031 - 20.352 Kim Komando

This is amazing. Right after today's Daily Tech Update, I'm going to play for you a great clip from my nationally syndicated radio show. It's called, I know, The Kim Commander Show. Funny how that works. And hey, if you're not subscribed to it wherever you get your podcasts, what are you doing? You're missing out. You need this intel to live in today's world.

Last year wasn't Apple's best year, and this year's not off to a great start either. So why is Apple missing the target so much? I'm Kim Commando for NetSuite. AI has changed the world, and businesses using it have the advantage. Download the free business guide, Demystifying AI, at netsuite.com slash kim. Apple's reputation as the golden child of Silicon Valley is wearing thin.

They completely missed AI. In fact, Apple's so far behind in AI development that it's buying AI from its competitor, Google. And there's more. The new slim iPhone Air is not the big seller Apple had hoped. Most new iPhone buyers get the 17, the Pro, and the Pro Max, leaving the thin iPhone Air with only 6% of Apple's phone sales. But maybe Apple doesn't really care.

The iPhone 17 brand wasn't expected to be a big seller because Apple's gearing up for this year's release of a foldable iPhone.

And now, as promised, a clip from my weekend show, The Kim Commando Show. It's pretty much the best radio show in the world, but I may be just a little biased. Sit back and enjoy. All right.

I don't know if you know this about me, Andrew, but I am fascinated with space. Really? You don't really talk about it a ton. You know, but I'm so enamored with the technology that even just airplanes, like how an airplane's able to get off the ground. It's like a portal to another world. I mean, you know, you get on in Phoenix and you can get off in London or something like that.

And you are right. It's so amazing that we can do that. But yet, when we get up there, we complain that there's no Wi-Fi.

0

121.217 - 121.719 Kim Komando

Yes, that's true.

0

121.899 - 124.666 Unknown

Or I don't want biscotti, I wanted peanuts.

124.686 - 125.348 Kim Komando

Exactly.

Chapter 3: How is Apple's AI strategy affecting its performance?

125.989 - 150.289 Kim Komando

Well, let's talk about the space race that's happening right now between Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. Now, each one of these billionaires, they have their own personal space agency and they're launching thousands and thousands of satellites into low earth orbit. And now the reason why they're doing this is of course. Money? Yes. It's a trillion dollar global internet market.

0

150.269 - 168.638 Kim Komando

and how people connect online. So forget cable lines, forget fiber, forget point-to-point wireless, whatever it may be. Now we're going to have affordable, really good satellite internet access. Is there just going to be one? Is one going to win all? Well, let's talk about that.

Chapter 4: What are the sales trends for the new iPhone models?

168.678 - 186.115 Kim Komando

That's a good question because Elon Musk got there first, of course, with SpaceX and Starlink. He's launched over 9,300 satellites. It doesn't matter where you are around the world, someplace you're gonna be able to get Starlink. He has approval to launch up to 42,000. 42,000?

0

186.135 - 187.378 Unknown

Yes.

0

188.701 - 203.287 Kim Komando

Now, what is the size of one of these Starlink satellites? I think they're about, you know, why don't you look up the exact. Okay. And because while you're looking up the exact, let's just talk about the number of people. 9.4 million people pay for Starlink.

0

203.888 - 219.645 Kim Komando

And Starlink, you know, the big deal is that they partner with T-Mobile so that these satellites act as cell towers floating 340 miles above your head. So when we look at the money, SpaceX is valued at $800 billion. Wow.

Chapter 5: What future iPhone innovations is Apple planning?

219.625 - 236.563 Kim Komando

It's the most valuable company, private company in the world. And investors are lining up because they're about ready to go public. And I've already called my people at Morgan Stanley. I'm like, I know I didn't do good on GoPro, but I'm feeling like SpaceX is going to be amazing for me.

0

236.583 - 241.828 Unknown

So you think SpaceX will win the war in space for internet? You don't think anyone else will beat them?

0

241.968 - 247.474 Kim Komando

We're going to talk about Jeff Bezos in a second. Okay. So what's the size of these? It's loading. I need Starlink.

248.515 - 277.234 Kim Komando

You do need Starlink. You want my phone? I can't get anything. Here, you can use my phone. Just come get it. The password is, and don't tell anybody, the password to my phone, it's 000000. So don't tell anybody. I've got to write that down. Now, since you asked about Jeff Bezos, he's behind. His company is Blue Origin. And he calls his network Amazon LEO. Get it for LEO, L-E-O, Low Earth Orbit.

277.936 - 289.677 Kim Komando

Now, he has plans to launch about 3,300 satellites. And right now, he's got 180 up there. And the service will launch, they say, in 2026 here in the U.S. and four other countries.

289.657 - 317.145 Kim Komando

now he's actually spending 10 billion dollars of his own money to make it happen and amazon's investing a lot more in the infrastructure because you have ground stations the whole operation data centers and then guess who else is in the space race China. Yep. They filed paperwork to launch, are you ready for this? 200,000 satellites. China. That blows Elon Musk out of the water.

317.785 - 333.079 Kim Komando

I mean, Musk's sitting there like 49,000. He's like, he's in the kiddie pool. And they're calling it the new mega constellation. Of course they are. They say that it wouldn't just provide internet. It would physically block other nations from using the low earth orbit. Yeah, that's pretty bad.

333.363 - 347.851 Unknown

You want the size? Yes. 13 feet wide, but then the panels can extend out to a hundred feet. I'm guessing 40 feet on each side, 45 feet on each side. And it weighs 1700 pounds.
